I went with my mom yesterday for the first showing of Crooks and Cupcakes. I was really excited because it was my first visit to the playhouse. The staff was super friendly and we were seated immediately. The dessert was delicious. They were serving cake, but also cupcakes in honor of the show. They were organized, attentive, and funny. The show was fantastic. It was realistic, funny, and emotional. An outstanding performance. I sat right in front and during the play I was handed a business card as part of the skit! Afterwards, there was a champagne reception and you could meet the cast and author. The cast were funny and friendly and were more than welcome to answer questions and take pictures! The author was incredibly nice and answered all questions. Absolutely recommend!
First avenue is always a good Friday night! The plays are awesome, the desert is great, and it's BYOB! You get very familiar with the staff and other audience members ! Homey and a great experience!
We saw a wonderful performance of Quartet last night at the First Avenue Playhouse. The acting was superb. This was our first visit here, and the atmosphere is great. Getting desert and coffee is an enjoyable extra, but the quality of the performance is what will bring us back again.
Bring some friends and come see this month's play...QUARTET.Award Winning Barry Prag Directs this funny poignant play set in a retirement home in England. Watch the fun unfold and gave some cake. Each year there is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday. Jean, who was briefly married to Reggie, arrives at the home and disrupts the peaceful atmosphere with her diva attitude. Don't let their ages fool you, it's so High School. I have been seeing shows here for 3 years. The actors are terrific, and really go overboard to give their audience a wonderful experience. After dessert and a show, you get to meet them!!The current show, July 2013, is a riot - you should make every effirt to see it .

My husband and I have been patrons of this wonderful little community theater for more than ten years! I can't believe I never put a review on here earlier. :) We love First Avenue. We come here almost every month. We try not to miss a single show. They usually do comedies with occasional; drama/mystery/musicals. They do plays by local playwrights too, one of which- Joe Simonelli is a favorite of ours. For a community theater, most of the plays we have seen there have been most enjoyable. The people who run it (a lot of them volunteers), as well as the actors, are all really nice folks. It's a very friendly atmosphere and what we like about it too is that you get to meet new people every time as you share a table with other patrons- it's a cafe style type of setting. The cakes they serve are great too! :) And the price of the tickets (including dessert and coffee/tea and soft drinks) is an absolute bargain! They offer dinner packages too with a couple of restaurants close by, if you decide to combine theater with dinner. We highly recommend this community theater. It is a great place to go with your spouse/date or larger party.
They do an excellent job promoting theater arts in the area. The management is very welcoming. Guests, an average of 36, are seated at tables of 4 to 6 to enjoy dessert (usually a selection of cakes with coffee/tea) followed by the play. Included cold beverages are served during intermission , an excellent time to mingle with other guests. At the end of the show, actors come out to meet and mingle with all guests. This little theater has a following of repeat guests....call ahead.
