Drive In theaters are not only a rare attraction in Iowa, they're rare around the world which makes having one here in Newton so awesome.Not only is it nostalgic, but it's a completely unique experience compared to traditional indoor cinemas...a change that kids especially will enjoy.You can almost make an entire evening here, incorporating a bit of outdoor ball activity, buy dinner at the concessions or opt to bring in your own, and then enjoy two movies late into the night.And because you can bring your own treats, you save a bundle of money compared to other theaters, especially considering the price for admission here for 2 movies back to back is roughly equivalent to a single showing elsewhere.

We took our kids so that they could experience a drive in theatre as they seem to be going extinct. This drive it is very nice and now has upgraded to digital! Get there early as the place often fills to capacity. Highly recommend!

I recently went to the Drive in, and I love this place, the outdoors is nice and clean area. The movie prices are great, and the movies are great choices, 2 movies for one price.

Having never visited a drive-in movie theater, I was excited to go to my first one. We were in Newton for other activities but had nothing planned on Friday night. We grabbed some drinks and snacks at a local convenience store and headed out. We arrived and easily found a place to park. We ate our meal and people watched as the sun was going down. We settled in and had a staff member approach us to let us know that we still had running lights on. Oops! We really appreciated the reminder! The movie started and what a blast we had. I can honestly say that the double feature was a really long time to spend in the car after driving all day. But the price of admission was equal to anything we would have paid anywhere else for a movie and this was for two. Really recommend visiting if you are ever in the area.

Trips to the Valle Drive In have become a defining part of our summer experience over the past 5 years. There's nothing like taking a cooler full of drinks and snacks to the drive in on a nice summer evening. You get two movies for the price of one and you don't have to deal with people impeding your personal space like at a regular theater. In addition to food and drink, we typically take lawn chairs, blankets, a radio, and a few good friends. Their digital audio system lets you tune into a radio station on your personal radio and turn up the volume as loud as you want it. if you don't want to bring your own snacks, they have a concession stand that serves up your typical movie theater fare (plus a few extras). It's always a fun time!

Growing up in Newton, Valle Drive In has always been a huge part of growing up. The weekends tend to be over-crowded and they usually advise that you park outside and bring chairs on their Facebook (usually they come out and tell you before you come in as well). It's the only drive-in around so plenty of people flood there on the weekends. If you want to ensure you have a spot, you have to get there a couple of hours before sunset on the weekends. Weeknights are usually the easiest to get spots. Granted, it's not the most glamorous place but it has been open for over 50 years. Give it a break. We were recently there to see the new Despicable Me. We didn't stay for the double-feature because we had to drive back home but it's definitely worth the money. If I remember right, it's only $7 or $8 per adult which is a fabulous price considering you have to pay that much for just one film in Des Moines. The food is priced about the same as it would be at any other theater. It's best to bring a portable radio if you have one so you can sit outside of your car on the nicer evenings. Don't forget the bug spray!I've never had any issues with the staff. Unless it's a busy night, the owners are rarely there and there are usually younger people running it. They're competent and pleasant.If you're looking for a fun evening for the family this is the place to be. Of course, it's always a cute date night too. : )
