Wonderful building and artwork! We stopped in to see the Jackson Pollack painting and I really loved the building, I'm a bit of an architecture buff.
This is a great building with fabulous artwork! Right now & for the next couple of months is a by the great Jackson Pollack. On loan from the U. of Iowa along with it's $150,000,000.00 value!. This Art Center gets some wonderful pieces to display along with it's own collection. Worth the trip & visit!
We spent part of our Valentines day at the Art Center and I must say that although smaller in scale to what a bigger might offer what was on display would rival the bigger city's. We were there to see the Jackson Pollock painting "Mural" yet once we moved on to the pieces on permanent display we were in awe of their quality. We were also impressed with the work they do with children. Congratulations Sioux City on an excellent art venue!!!!
Wow - who would have ever thought you could see a Jackson Pollock mural/painting in Sioux City? I'm from Chicago and was visiting Sioux City. To see a display like this made me think I back in Chicago. Congratulations to the "art scene" of Sioux City for landing this artistic genius!
The Sioux City Art Center is worth a stop and a linger. The architecture of the building is unique and I am certain you will find the displays, both traveling and permanent, enjoyable. I live in town and am able to stop often. The grounds and inside are always kept super clean and no matter when I have been there, the employees have been helpful and friendly. The art center is located within walking distance of several local restaurants including those found on Historic Fourth Street.
We were lucky enough to visit while the museum had Jackson Pollock's "Mural" on display. While that piece was impressive and the supporting information (history, etc.) was well done there was lots of good art throughout the museum. The staff was very attentive and friendly. A gem of Sioux City.
If you're expecting a big city art muesum, you might be disappointed at the Sioux City Art Center. But if you like local and regional artists you'll be thrilled, and if you have kids, you'll love the kids room. My sons have spent hours in there-in one visit! The traveling exhibits are often worth checking out (I think it's Jackson pollock right now) and the special events and workshops for kids and adults are often very cool.
We came specifically to see the conservation work done on the Pollack mural and we were pleasantly surprised by the attractive museum building. Don't miss the permanent collection on the third floor. It was started with a grant from the WPA. Mostly midwestern artists who are not well known, but the works are well selected excellent representation of various styles of 20th century art. Just a short walk from the Hard Rock hotel.
This museum is a gem. It has an interesting atrium and nice gift shop. Displays were tastefully done. There was a Jackson Pollock painting on display. Remarkably this gem is free....no admission charge. It is right downtown in an easy to find place off I-29.
The Jackson Pollock Mural is on display here, on loan from the University of Iowa, commanding it's own room, after being cleaned. They have a very nice facility.
The art center currently has Jackson Pollock's Mural on display until April of next year. Accompanying exhibits are excellent, and the Pollock exhibit is simply ourstanding. Collection of regional art is excellent, the hands-on gallery for children is great fun and the building itself is a work of art. Easy to get to from the interstate. Highly recommended!
I only had 30 minutes to visit, since I noticed out of the corner of my eye entering my hotel (Stoney Creek - see my other review), and it was an unplanned item in the schedule. I am very happy I took the time to stop in and see the Jackson Pollock Mural. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Good background information on the artist being shown on the video loop in the conference room. Their small gift table also included magnets, CD's of his favorite jazz music, and some other literature for sale. I didn't have enough time to see all of their sculpture installations, save for the few nearby the parking lot. I needed more time to spend at their lovely art center....Bottom Line - I would love a few more hours to spend at their Art Center. I'll be back.If this review was helpful, please check the button below. Thank you!
It was great. I had never been to the Art Center before. A bit hard to find but got there.I had heard about the Pollock exhibit and wanted to see it. While were there we check the rest of it out. All in all it was a nice little art center. They have some interesting sculptures that I appreciate. Some of their local art is ok, but a bit too abstract for my taste (in this instant - I like abstract and this was missing something).Spent two hours looking around!
This is a wonderful museum. It's small, but very accessible. There are three main galleries for the permanent collection and they have some very nice pieces - including a couple Chihulys. The Grant Wood Corn room is wonderful. When i was there the visiting exhibit was Jackson Pollock's "Mural" and it was wonderful. This is a lovely museum and worth a trip.
Took the kids to see things. They loved the play area, they could have stayed in there for hours. We stopped before lunch and they had a great time.
