We really enjoyed the museum as it was loaded with lots of history about the Missouri river boating history.
This is a unique and fun welcome center housed in an old steamboat on the banks of the Missouri. The center includes the usual tourist booklets and gift shop as well as a funky museum about river traffic and Sargent Floyd. You can walk through the engine room and the sailors quarters as well as the pilot house. Fun for all ages.
Now ,this is really something to see with all the informative literature provided about the ship& it's purpose & can even walk upstairs to 2 other floors for many things to enjoy. I loved the old canoe that is displayed in it's entirety, gives you such a feeling of being a part of history during that time era. Wonderful to experience, and helpful staff there too. Highly recommend to visit.J&K Rusanda Ia.
I enjoyed the plaques with brief history. Easy walk to views. Looks like a mini Washington monument.
We stopped here while looking for the Iowa welcome center. We found this gem by accident. Ended up staying more than an hour. Great movie, very friendly docent/manager. Very educational in a straight forward manner. It was well worth our time.
I visited this sight on my trek along the Missouri following the Lewis and Clark expedition. The museum is actually a boat, and I enjoyed seeing this aspect of Sioux City. I highly recommend it.
There is a nice welcome center and gift shop, and it's on a boat, and the boat is a museum. The museum is the boat, and there is lots of interesting information about Lewis and Clark and boating in general on the Missouri. A cool display about trapping and beaver hats. Interesting info about shipping and ship wrecks. Cool stuff about trading and exploration. And there's also info about the boat itself, and the engine and the pilot house. It's on the water front so the view is great and the grounds are nice.
This is a well kept museum. I found the artifacts and stories to be interesting. They also have an excellent gift shop with many tee shirts to choose from.
A great history of life on the Missouri River, with a focus on Lewis and Clark and the early era of paddle boats. Built inside of an old boat it offers a glimpse into recent history and a commanding view of the river when you go up to the crow's nest be sure to ring to bell!
3 floors which contain a wealth of information on this river boat operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Displays by local 4th graders of their version of the river boat. 45 minute on the journey of Lewis & Clark's expedition -- very well made. Plus they have literature on all parts of the state of Iowa!
This is a museum in a dry docked riverboat, named the Sergeant Floyd, after the soldier who died near what was to be Sioux City during the Lewis and Clark expedition. But museum is not just about the ship. All three levels are packed with all sorts of historical treasures including Missouri river historical displays, native american artifacts, Lewis & Clark display and replica equipment, steamboat models and an authentic dug-out canoe! I'm amazed on how much they packed into this ship. Like Doctor Who's Tardis, is seems bigger on the inside! The museum is located within walking distance of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Centre, and there's no admission charge.
