I think the W & W is a neat family activity, but I don't think it's worth the price of admission. Cut the price a few dollars and it'd be a better value. $12 for a 45 minute train ride forward and back is not worth it. Plus, when you cross over rt. 48, very few houses decorate with Christmas lights. The highlight is the beginning in the Brookemeade section. I would suggest that if you are in a large party, sit side by side. When the train reverses, switch seats, so you can see houses on both sides. My 22-month old son loves trains, and he didn't enjoy the ride like we expected. He DID love the souvenir shop inside the station that is stocked with a good amount of Thomas stuff.

We drove up from Virginia for the Holiday Express. The staff were great. They were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back.

While this is a great example of preservation, it does not provide much of an experience. If you expect to go for a ride on a steam train you are likely to be disappointed. Most of the excursions are actually diesel powered because of the expense of maintaining and operating the steam power units. The scenery is somewhat boring and goes thru suburban neighborhoods without much to look at. Took my grandchildren on the Santa Express and the Easter Bunny Express, which are abbreviated trips, and even they were bored.

Very good for an afternoon with the kids. We went at Christmas and Santa and Mrs. Claus joined for the ride...kids had a blast!

Riding the good ol' train felt really nostalgic, and my little daughter really liked the 90-minute train ride here. Visiting here during autumn is really recommended, since the autumn-leaf tour was absolutely fantastic!

A must see if you're in the Wilmington area! The autumn leaf tour was breathtaking. Cannot wait to visit again!

My husband and I took the Halloween Express trip with our 2 year old. The Fall Foliage train the week before had sold out, but this special trip turned out to work just fine for our family. Children in costume received a 50% discount off their fare, which was a nice bonus. We live about 1.5 hours away, so there was a bit of a drive involved. The train ride itself was just about an hour, since it was the "express." That meant that the train went to the Mt. Cuba picnic area and straight back without stopping. A "good witch" (dressed in all white) greeted all the children on board, and the friendly volunteer staff went around and shared some information about the train, history, etc. The train was in great shape, and you can tell the volunteers really take pleasure in keeping things up. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a snack bar, gift shop and restrooms in the ticket office, and a snack cart went around the train during the ride. The scenery was nice, but as expected this day in age, it went through some not-so-scenic areas, too (e.g., residential neighborhoods, highways, etc.). I would recommend sitting on the side closest the train station for the best views. For a modest investment of time and money, this was a nice afternoon for our family. I would recommend it.

This was a nice relaxing diversion. The train ride was 30 minutes out to Mt. Cuba picnic area...a 20 minute picnic...and then 30 minutes back to the station. This railroad is totally volunteer run and all the volunteers are very enthusiastic, helpful, and friendly. This is a very nice activity for families.

What a hidden gem of an attraction just outside wilmington. Buy a ticket, pack a lunch, and enjoy the scenery on the way to their picnic grove. Most trips include a 20 to 30 minute layover at Mt Cuba adjacent to the creek. Here you are free to enjoy the scenery or have a nice picnic lunch!

A group of senior citizens went on the railroad this past Sunday afternoon. Since we had a whole group of 48 people, they reserved the first car for all of us. All the seats were made of the old-fashion rattan. There were a lot of families that went on this ride also. When we got 30 minutes into the ride, we stop along the river at a picnic area for a rest stop. One family even had a birthday party there for their youngster. You could pack your own lunch and have time to eat it at the river. Plenty of tables and benches sprawled along about 2 blocks. When we return to the train, we just had to turn our bench seats the other way, and we proceeded back to the station. What an enjoyable afternoon.

We took the train trip with our 2 year old grandson who is in love with trains. This attraction is run by volunteers who do an excellent job of making it a wonderful experience.

We arrived at the Greenbank Station to board the train for the 12:30 pm Mt.Cuba Meteor ride. We boarded the old fashion steam engine 5 minutes prior to departure time. The interior of the train was very charming ,with all original ,well preserved and maintained flip seats and fixtures. The train traveled over a bridge, past streams, past several railroad crossings where we waved at the locals, and they waved back, past the rear of homes, and through other very scenic rustic areas prior to arriving at the Mt.Cuba picnic area. The picnic area was situated along side a running stream. There were more than enough picnic tables for all guests at this beautiful tree shaded site. We were given 30 minutes to eat the lunch that we had been pre-advised to bring. At the end of our picnic time, the train whistle sounded, and the conductor called all aboard, and we re boarded the train. The train traveled in reverse back to the Greenbank Station. The return trip was equally as pleasant as the seats flipped for a different perspective . The total trip took 90 minutes. The only thing that would have been nicer is to have had a little more time at the picnic site to just relax and take in the natural beauty after having lunch.

Really wish our grandkids were with us. Just a nice short trip to enjoy a step back in time. Certainly not something you can do just anywhere. The train stops and you get a chance to stretch, eat you picnic lunch and head back, in reverse. Try to pick your weather. The train is truly authentic and not air conditioned.
