Your heart will never be the same again. Not only is the sanctuary's beauty beyond compare... being able to volunteer and work with the animals is a life changing experience. This entire sanctuary is beyond words. It will fill your heart in places you never knew existed. Worth every second of your vacation time and more.

I was driving the back roads which I always do around Kanab looking for some fun places to go hike and explore and found this little gem. I try to explain this crazy place to people but until you go and see for yourself you will never understand. I was so peaceful and this is where you want to take your best friends for sure when they die.

Only spent one night here - fitted it in on a trip through the area - but definitely want to return for a longer time to volunteer. I was impressed by the kindness of the people I met here, as well as their respect for the animals who live there. And the location is gorgeousOne worker told me that they could use more volunteers in January and February so if you have some free time then it would be a particulary good time to help out.

Definitely worth the trip! We came out just to visit Best Friends and it surpassed our expectations. We will be making this a yearly visit from now on.

Visiting & volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT is a "do not miss" experience!!! Tours of the LARGE & BEAUTIFUL site which is home to 1,700 animals at any one time provide a friendly introduction to some of the animals and eye-popping views of the red rock location. Membership is reasonable & includes a magazine of exceptional quality six times a year. See bestfriends.org. Volunteering @ Best Friends is a joy! Staff and animals alike are so appreciative!

After years as a monthly donor, I have visited Best Friends twice--once alone and once to share the experience with my husband. This summer I will return with some of my grandchildren. I cannot imagine a better way to demonstrate compassion for all living creatures, as well as the power behind the love and determination of a handful of incredible individuals with a vision. Don't pass St. George, Utah, without a day's (or more) diversion to visit Best Friends.

This was my third time volunteering at Best Friends. It does your heart proud to see what the volunteers are doing to improve the lives of these animals and help to adopt them out. World class facilites all paid for by donations. All kinds of animals live there and you can volunteer for any section. Just taking the tour is totally educational.

To simply call this a "no-kill shelter" for dogs, cats, horses, pet pigs, and more doesn't even come close to doing it justice. (For example, in a cat "home", they allow shy cats to live in the rafters, where they aren't bothered by more social cats.) They provide both physical and behavioral rehabilitation. It is also located on the edge of beautiful Angel Canyon. We highly recommend the tour.

The free two-hour tour of the sanctuary, which is the largest in the U.S., highlights this incredible installation dedicated to saving the lives of animals of all kinds. They have a world-class veterinarian facility to care for all manner of animal needs. You come away feeling good that so many people have dedicated their money and their time to providing a new life for discarded animals.

My wife and I were literally driving through the area on a cross-country road trip and saw the sign for Best Friends. We are both vegans and animal rights activists, so as you can imagine it was amazing to find this place by accident. Best Friends primarily focuses on household animals / pets, but also rescues horses and other large animals. Their land is absolutely beautiful, and they treat the animals with the utmost respect and love. They do guided tours of the property and history which are friendly and informative. Sure, the location is a bit remote, but very much worth it!

My wife and I stopped here on our way to Zion. I wasn't big on it, but I went because I love her. We went on a two hour tour and saw a dog and some cats. We drove through a pet cemetery as well. If you love animals and have time to kill then its worth stopping by. If not an animal lover, then keep on cruising to your destination.

We made our second visit to Best Friends on our most recent trip. If you're driving from Bryce or Zion to the Grand Canyon or down to Phoenix, it's right on the way. The Welcome Center and Gift Shop has a short movie that is worth seeing on your first visit that gives some history of the place. Our first time through we hopped on the tour bus and went up to the dog and cat worlds (separate places and each with multiple buildings). Our last visit we went directly to the parrot area and got a great hour tour of the various buildings housing macaws, cockatoos, parrots, and cockatiels. Learned a lot about the birds, got up close (but not too close) to a bunch of varities, and really had a great experience. All of the areas we've seen on both visits are extremely well managed, clean and informative. The buildings fit well into the desert canyon landscape, which itself is beautiful to drive through. Our kids (aged 9-16) love it and would go back again. It's also just the right amount of time (2 hours or so, depending on what you see). Check in advance for tour times. It's also all FREE, although donations are accepted (and I would encourage doing so given the value/experience).
