I am very glad that I stopped in today to peruse the grounds of this historic home. Even as the home itself and guided tours are not available during January, it was still peaceful and enjoyable to take in the surroundings of an era long ago. Much of this history is documented on markers, so I was able to enjoy. A touch of irony, as I was passing Mr. Davis's memorial when it began to lightly snow, which made it more poignant to pay tribute to this amazing patriot. There is only a fee for this attraction when guided tours are operating.

If you have never been to The Sam Davis home you need to visit. It has been well preserved to remember the respected Sam Davis who only lived to the age of 21. The grounds are just beautiful it is located on the banks of Stewarts Creek. If you love historic homes make this your next trip.

The Sam Davis House is in mourning in October. Decorated in a way that is spooky to us today but would have just been sad in Sam Davis' day. The Civil War was like most wars, there were heroics and stories that would transcend their era. And in the case of the United States of America, we can be grateful that the right side of the war won, the union was saved and the injustice of slavery began it's long arch toward justice. At the Sam Davis Home at Halloween you can hear about the less romantic side of the war. Soldiers took over the home and stole livestock. Davis was active on the wrong side of the conflict and ended up at the end of a hangman's noose. But the nobility of a man who would die to protect the people who trusted him is notable and the preservation of history important. And now I am rambling. To the tour....The evening tour featured a hayride under the stars. One of the nicest features of the tour where you are taxied from the gift shop to the home. Stories are told along the way and there are a few surprises. No one touches you beyond a handshake and history is the main priority so well behaved children can really enjoy the experience and learn something. The actors are always top notch and enthusiastic. My only complaint this year is that they refuse to break character even when tourists are being disruptive. A few bad apples nearly ruined the tour this year by being loud and annoying. The atmosphere in the house feels naturally heavy as it is very dark and candle lit. The stories are accompanied by actors who perform during to reinforce the point. It's all very accurate and well put together. It cost $20 for two adults and was a great Halloween date. We were on one of their last tours of the season.Great job to the cast and crew but ticket sellers could be a little friendlier.

I visited the Sam Davis house in Smyrna, Tn for the annual Halloween ghost tour. Was a $10 entrance fee for adults. We arrived at dark so couldn't see much of the grounds. There is no electricty in home so all candle lit, very creepy. They had a awesome gift shop, very clean and neat place. We boarded a hayride and was pulled around the grounds, around the cotton fields and by the Stones River. Our guide told of the house and its occupents and the civil war in area. Along the way there were many creepy things that happen. When we got to the house for your, the creepiness didn't stop there. The guides were awesome and the creep factor, high. No one will touch you on this tour, but you never know who is behind or beside you!! Lastly we visited several structures outside and the family cemetery. I would highly recommend if you like creepiness. Look forward to returning in daylight to visit as well.

We went on a field trip and I felt there were plenty of engaging activities for the kids. They had flyers up for upcoming events and it appears that they have a lot of halloween family fun.

We toured the home and grounds on a deary afternoon, but only the weather was dreary. The tour guide had recently started working there. It was her life's dream to work there and her enthusiasm was great! The video is a must see so you truly understand all that happened to the family. The museum is very well laid out with plenty of exhibits. The gift shop contained the usual items, plus some nice pottery from a local artist.We were able to use a coupon from AARP Rewards so admission was half price. Sweet!So if you don't know what to do one day, visit the Sam Davis Home and enjoy the afternoon.

We had a wonderful afternoon at the Sam Davis Home. There were some guys playing live music on the porch and you could hear them all over the grounds. There is a modern gift shop with SUPER CLEAN restrooms. This is a secluded location surrounded by cotton fields. The main house is beautiful and the guide was very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions an more. The cedar trees lining the drive are beautiful. This home is every bit as interesting as The Hermitage and more laid back. We will go back when friends visit from out of town.

This is an average home to tour; however, the story of Sam Davis as a Confederate war hero is very interesting. He is something of a state hero with memorials all over the place. Our guide was not great, but we were glad we took this tour and learned about Sam, a true hero at age 21. Overall this tour was worth the time it took to drive to it from the highway down the beaten path.

Visiting the Sam Davis Home was a great way to spend an afternoon. At the time we were the only visitors (3 of us) and got first rate treatment from the guide. The house itself was family owned until it was turned over the state. It was never in the possession of any other families so it never had to be restored as so many of the old homes have although the furnishings had been sold. Many of the family furnishings were recovered and other items are from the period but not authentic to the house. The guide was very knowledgeable and let us spend as much time as wanted in the house. It was a fascinating afternoon. Highly recommend, especially if you are interested in Civil War history.

This historic home and museum is a wonderful gem of Tennessee history. The small museum was very well done. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and family friendly. We went in October so they staged one of the rooms of the house for a funeral. Fun way to add a little Halloween fun to the tour. That was certainly added to my knowledge of 19th century customs. At our request, we also learned a number of ghost stories told about the place. If you arrive later in the day, be sure to visit the museum first before doing the house tour; the museum was closed by the time we arrived back from the house tour, but we were still able to get items in the gift shop.

I usually go there for holidays like Easter and Halloween. Their Halloween tour is the only one I have been on and it was fun. It was also Educational and I love the how everything seemed accessable not like a stuffy museum, they still had the red ropes up but the guides were friendly. They had snacks that they offered and a gift shop. A very special place indeed.

This is the best kept secret in Middle Tennessee. The house itself is interesting - the tour guides are very knowledge. The children in our group really enjoyed themselves - there is room for them to move about outside without too much danger (there is a creek though - so adult supervision still required). We live across the street (literally) from this attraction and have taken many visitors there. We've yet to receive a complaint.
