Filled with photos etc but, I would have liked to see this cute cabin set up as when he lived there. Was not organized great or very clean but, it's nice to see everything, was interesting! It's worth a quick stop!

When Colorado Jim suggested a detour to Manassa to visit the Jack Dempsey Museum, I was more than happy to cooperate. I knew that Dempsey was a long-ago heavyweight champion, but I never suspected that his “Manassa Mauler” nickname had anything to do with a tiny town in Colorado. Any museum focused on his life was bound to be interesting. When I learned that the museum is housed in the log structure in which Dempsey was born, I was all the more eager to see it.Much to my disappointment, and despite the posted hours, the museum wasn’t open when we got there. I’ll have to return another day if I want to see Dempsey’s boxing gloves, the museum’s many historical photos, and other artifacts of interest. Since it’s displayed outdoors, we had no trouble enjoying the museum’s magnificent bronze sculpture of the Manassa Mauler in fighting pose. It’s a quality photo op, and alone well worth the visit. Be sure to read the inscription on the statue’s base. Among other things, it tells you that the boxer’s real name was William Harrison Dempsey, he was a mamma’s boy, and he won his heavyweight championship on Independence Day in 1919. The statue is dedicated to his mother.

This is a very nice little museum dedicated to the legendary boxer Jack Dempsey who was from there. It is just a few minutes off Hwy 285. Look for the statue of Dempsey on the right hand side. You can't miss it.
