This site is one location in the Canyon of the Ancients National monument. They have a section of the Pueblo fairly well reconstructed and preserved under a steel roof. I loved stepping inside the door of the pueblo and going down the curved stairs to a deep kiva. It gives you a great feel for how the structure was used. Also the large, older kiva with huge figures drawn out in stone in the floor is very impressive. One last note, yes this is at the end of a long dirt road. However, the next road down is paved and runs parallel most of the way to the pueblo. This paved road is the same one you take out to Painted hand pueblo and the other groups in Hovensweep National Monument.

This ruin has been reconstructed. It has two kivas and associated rooms. There is no one on site. Site signage is okay but inadequate for a good visit. The brochure from the Heritage Center helps a little. Better to have a guidebook with an extensive narrative. One kiva is under cover and can be seen up close. To us it was worth the drive. Dirt road was easily drivable.

Not worth the drive or time it takes to get to this area. Down a dirt road that takes 25 minutes to go 9 miles each way. All this area offers is a few pic nic tables and a porta potty that looked like it hasnt been cleaned.

We did enjoy Lowery Pueblo. They have done a nice job of documenting and informing us of the importance of this area from an archaeological standpoint. We actually started at the Anasazi Heritage Center in Dolores, then came in to Lowery Pueblo, went on to Painted Hand Pueblo and then to Hovenweep National Monument. A beautiful afternoon with a little bit of hiking but no real difficult effort. The road back to Painted Hand, from the turn off back to the site (about a mile and a half?) should not be tried in wet weather as it would get very slick. Other than that the roads are generally very good.
