I am a solo performer from NYC and have been invited to perform at the Chenango River Theatre for the past two summers now. Great venue, intimate house, 100 seats. Bill Lelbach, the artistic director, takes great care with his productions and runs both the front and back of the house with the diligence and pride of a general! I look forward to coming back to see a show.
We enjoyed several plays last year and were impressed with the theatre and the outstanding performances. We invited several couples to join us this year. They were equally pleased with the performances. We stay for the "Talk Back" last week. That was very interesting talking to the actors. They were open to all of the questions posed by the audience. The only negative comment I have is in reference to a One Woman show we saw recently. It failed miserably. It was poorly attended and I had the chance to speak with several people who also had the same feelings. The director's comments - "This is a show we presented, meaning we booked it in. No one here had ever seen or read the show, we'd only heard about it. As part of our "One Night Stand" series, it's supposed to be entertainment that is not necessarily mainstream, that appeals to a different type of audience than much of our own work. Part of our mission is to try and attract different audiences to come to the theatre - I'll readily concede that I too did not find the show all that compelling." Since I received the message from the director, I will definitely pay more attention to the shows the theatre "book in". The plays have been outstanding. I will not hesitate to attend the plays in the future.
Enjoyable evening spent May not be like the BIG City but we enjoyed it. Able to meet some new friends, Enjoyed the entertainment. Check out the Website http://www.chenangorivertheatre.org/Chenango_River_Theatre/Home_Page.htmlTO see what is playing..
Unnecessary Farce has just completed its run to rave reviews. Absolutely first rate. The actors work as a fine-tuned team to present a classic farce with perfect timing. The theatre is small, 99 seats, so the audience is treated to an up close and personal event. This is an equity actors theatre so most of the actors do come from NYC. It is well worth the trip to come to Greene, NY to experience great theatre.
On 7/21/13 we went to see "Fully Committed", a one act, one actor play. We couldn't have seen a better show! The theater, the actor, and the play were all very good. This was our first visit to this playhouse situated in a relatively new and nicely decorated building on Rt. 12 near Greene. There is an area with tables and chairs and a small snack bar with goodies, wine, beer, and soft drinks. These must be eaten prior to going into the theater itself. All the seats are good and the staff assigns seats on the day of performance so when the theater isn't full only the closest seats are used. We will definitely be seeing more shows here.
We LOVE this theatre! We have been season subscribers each year that it's been open and what a treat! First, the prices of the shows are incredibly reasonable. The quality of the performers and sets is top notch. It's a very small theatre (under 100 seats, I believe) and there is not a bad seat in the house. Each season brings a good mix of plays with a musical production thrown in, plus this year and last there have been special one night additional shows that have come to CRT. If you're a theatre buff you will love this gem. Run - (don't walk!) and get your tickets to the Chenango River Theatre!!!
