I was in Saranac Lake in upstate New York just this Saturday 27th 2014. I saw that a antique place was open called Cassidy's Antique's ( was told after the owner's name is Linda Cassidy). I wheeled in with my vehicle and noticed the owner was outside talking with someone. As I got out of the vehicle and proceeded to head for the antique shop itself ..she walked towards me near the main antique shop entrance... ( There are two other buildings total and some junk lying around outside).. she looked at me and said.. " I don't want you to come here ". I looked at her for a second and said " Ok, That's fine ". I didn't even want to argue who, what when or why. I don't know if it was the way I looked, walked or acted... why she would even say such a non business like such a thing to me. Or maybe she is prejudice because I again looked a certain way. Obviously without the garb and theatrics from my Facebook page... I am a buyer of antiques and collect them as a hobby. I am letting all of you know that expect a rude.. and in my opinion prejudice attitude person.

Saranac Lake is a beautiful town with a marvelous lake, shopping area, and sumptuous restaurants. I love its proximity to Lake Placid and the ice castle that is built there every winter.

Everyone has a favorite place or two that seems to be special to them. Lower Saranac Lake Islands in the Adirondacks affords you the opportunity to camp in relative isolation on your own island in the middle of a lake with virtually no development. This is hard to come by, if not impossible, in many parts of the country. The villages of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are within 15 minutes should you choose to go to town. The highlight, of course, is wonderful scenery, solitude and a place to get away from everything for awhile. This describes Lower Sarance Lake in a nutshell. A vacation destination for Mark Twain and Albert Einstein...if it's good enough for them then it's good enough for me.If you are looking for Disney rides or wax museums, I strongly encourage you to travel elsewhere. You wouldn't get it.

Six of us went to the tip of the lake for a picnic. We found a spot with a table right on the edge of the lake so it was very scenic. After our picnic we spent some time just sitting there and talking because it was really nice. HIghly recommened.

A full page ad in the adirondack living magazine made us pack up and take the trip to saranac lake, taking time off of work and booking a room, totally prepared for vendors and good ole music. What we got was a tent with locals and some horrible beer that we threw out after one sip and music you could only hear if you were in the tent. We really should of just gone camping. The area is truly beautiful but all four of us felt "duped" Your're welcome Saranac...or whoever advertised for you.... You got our money .

We stayed in a friend's boathouse in early October. The loons were the loudest sound around and we kayaked, motor-boated and dreamed all weekend. This place is an artist's and writer's dream. The hiking is wonderful, mountains are all around. Don't miss the October color!! Antiquing and restaurants abound in the town of Saranac.

The area is very beautiful. The lake and the camps are worth the trip. The mountain views are spectacular. Great fishing, hunting and boating! The village looks a little run down. It is very difficult to find a good restaurant with quality food at a reasonable price. We ate most of our meals in Lake Placid. While it may have been expensive the quality was much better than we experienced in Saranac.

It was an awesome trip. With temperatures that ranged in the mid 10s and 20s, people from the town cut blocks of ice from the frozen lake to build an Ice Palace. They host sport events and competitions for both kids and adults. We even participated in the inner tube races with an embarrassing 8th place in a 10 people competition. But we definitely had a lot of fun. Read more about this trip on my blog! http://lagamio.com

I visited here for winter carnival. The carnival was a spectacular way to enjoy the winter weather. We did it all--went snowmobiling, had a bonfire on the ice, visited the ice palace, saw the parade, went to the rotary show, etc. It was so nice to see the town buzzing with activity. It was just a fabulous time! If you've been thinking about going to winter carnival--do it!

This is a little treasure. We just wanted a little tubing place. I read the reviews and heard people say it was awful. We thought this was a picturesque place and the staff was as friendly as could be. It had a tow for the tubes and was perfect for our four yearnold and even the ten year old had fun. It was safe, easy, cozy, and gorgeous with surrounding mountains. It was not a thrill seeking mountain but just perfect for little kids and their families. We thought the only headache was the parking:( overall we had a lovely day there. I think the skiing is perfect for beginners.

Let me tell you what ! Besides Christmas, This is the best week of the winter. This year the carnival theme is Celtic. The carnival court float in the parade boasted its 117th annual event. The parade, the games, the fireworks, lots of entertainment fills the 10 day celebration. You should make sure not to miss this. Ck out the website http://www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com/photo-day I love winter and this is my favorite week of the year.I will try to attach some photos.

We traveled to Saranac Lake for the opening weekend of the Festival. The ice castle was very impressive ( especially at night ) but after seeing that and the Saturday fireworks display ( also impressive ) there wasn't much else to do. We did go and listen to some Celtic music and also had a quick dinner at the local Chinese restaurant. After the lighting of the castle and the fireworks we left. The next day we went and explored the area and Lake Placid so all was not lost. We were not disappointed we had a good time on the trip

The area is gorgeous... the lake and the mountains surrounding it are worth a day or more in Saranac Lake. Great place to do some hiking, biking (if you like hills), canoeing, kayaking, etc... Actually, the whole valley is awesome and I recommend you spend some time around here.
