The Strand finished up their fund raising and hopefully will be showing movies in the summer of 2015 as they go Digital. This is the official meeting place in the town where summer families and local natives meet to enjoy some of the latest film releases. Its a classic theatre that always draws crowds. As they go digital, maybe they''ll consider some other updates as time goes on. Until then we all eagerly await their re-opening.
This was such a great experience and fun place to see a summer movie on a rainy day/night. Would recommend getting your tickets and seats early especially if the weather is rainy
Great Shakespearian adventure. Actors worked hard and pulled off an exciting Tempest experience. We enjoyed the experience in the historic Strand Theaters new stage. A decent crowd and once the word is out I am sure they will act to a full house.
OOHHH NOOO say it ain't soooo! We were going to make a weekend trip to Schroon esp to go to the strand-- My friend Larry has been an audiophile all of his life and a "fine shmankerer" to boot. He is into authenticity and high quality --- Support his theater and he will deliver an awesome product!!!!!!!!!!! - raechel
They had to go dark end of summer 2013 with the mandated transition to digital movie equipment. Larry who runs the theater said the cost was 70000 much to high fir little schroon lake. Rumors have it they got a grant for part of the makeover and are currently having an ongoing fundraiser to raise the rest. Let's hope we see it reopen it was so nice to have. The movies were first run, the prices low( I'm sure that will have to change) and the popcorn delicious.
Schroon Lake is so fortunate to have it's very own movie theater! Thank you to the owners, you do a wonderful job!
A piece of the past but playing the movies we want to see today. Great archetecture and preserved details inside. Worth a ticket just to see the wallpaper.
I have been going to the Strand on and off for many years. IT IS AN INSTTUTION with great memories. Recently I heard the theatre may have to close as new movies are made digitaly which requires very expensive new equipment. I hope someone will start a fund to keep the grad old Strand operating.
Only one showing per day. Features are current. One selection per night. Quaint and cool. Could use a little bit more by way of a concession stand.
The theater is old, but the feel is great. It brings you back in time to watch the movie. If in Schroon, you need to catch the movie at 8pm.
Better visit soon. This movie palace may not be able to convert to all digital "Movies" and the glorious past may close again.
Just what I needed--laughed a lot. Cute, a lot of action; great for all ages. Got to have Larry's pop-corn while there, too:)
