Rather disappointed. I have been to quite a few events here and every time I go I am more disappointed. I wish people would book another venue. The food is cafeteria tasting on a good day. The staff is very unfriendly. I will never book an event there and am trying not to go when someone else does. Eat before you go, that's what I do.
I had recently attended a wedding at Patriot Hills. At first look, the venue is quite beautiful and overlooks amazing scenery. The ceremony was outside and the view was absolutely breathtaking. This was one of the most positive aspects of the wedding. Sadly, upon arriving at the hall, all guests were greeted with a glass a champagne. We waiting around for 30-45 minutes until the ceremony began, but they had run out of champagne for the guests about 20 minutes in, and the bartenders told us they were not open therefore could not serve us. Once the ceremony was done, we went to the cocktail hour and the room was unable to seat all the people that were attending the wedding (or even 1/3 of who attended). The food was mediocre and the staff had somewhat, lousy attitudes towards the guests and almost came off as if they'd rather be anywhere else on this earth rather than serving the guests at the wedding. They were rude with the passed hors d'oeuvres and even worse at the dinner. When the reception officially began, we walked into the room and were handed the menu's rather than having them already on our plates. This resulted in several people NOT having a menu and lot's of sharing around tables. Orders were taken very quickly, and it again seemed like the staff had ZERO patience with the guests. Bread was practically thrown on the table in a rush. I will skip over the taste of the pasta and salad and go to the main course. I had ordered a steak, but received no steak knife. I had to use my butter knife to cut the meat. It was not well seasoned but edible. Not the best I have ever had, but not the worst either. The saving grace of that dish was the cheddar cheese hash (delicious). My wife and several others at the table ordered the Mahi Mahi dish and all of them said the same thing, it was too salty. Only one individual at our table called our waitress over to say something. The waitress essentially looked at the person with annoyance and again, NO patience. When a chicken finally was delivered to the table, it was thrown down. Not professional at all. At the conclusion of the night, we were served cake, and the literal second we were done eating, the plates were scooped up. People that were dancing, were left without napkins, since those too were taken up. The hall was in a rush to get a start on cleanup it would appear, and the guests ended up suffering. I would not recommend getting married at this location, unless this establishment can get their act together and realize they need to go the extra mile for an occasion as special as a wedding.
Patriot Hills is a uniquely laid out course, that is challenging to the golf beginner. There is no walking as you need to take a cart to "travel through the woods". The course has some spectacular views of the Hudson River, where you play on a Par 3. During the fall season , you can play for a reasonable price that includes lunch.
Beautiful golf course; card looks short for low handicappers but, challenging enough to make an enjoyable round. Will be even more beautiful in 2 weeks when fall foliage is in full glory!
As a rule of thumb, when I arrive at a new golf course I always hope that I am going to fall in love with it. Now I usually read reviews or know someone who has played the course before me, but I put less weight on what others say and more on what I experience. When I read on the Patriot Hills website that it was voted one of the “top 20 public courses in New York State”, I decided that I needed to go see for myself. In short, over my 5 hour round of golf Saturday afternoon I fell in love with Patriot Hills. The layout, the views, the greens… I couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about the course. There is not one stupid hole on the course; there is not one place where I would have done something different. I could have gone out and shot 100 and I would still want to go back out and play the course again, it was that fun.For my full review as well as photos, visit my blog below!http://twilightteetime.wordpress.com/2014/05/18/patriot-hills-golf-club/
