Upside: it's nearby, they have some interesting exhibits including the High School art exhibit I was there to see. Nice opportunity for teens to display in a professional gallery. Downside: it's very small and the front entrance jumps right into the galleries. Big building, oddly arranged. One additional comment: it was snowing but the outside seating areas looked lovely, tucked under enormous trees. Summer might be the right season.

We have visited often and it is always worth it because we live nearby and the exhibits are well presented. The current show on samarai swords, kimonos and art is worth seeing. The shows about Iceland, quilts and "Faces" were also excellent and have moved on to other museums in Manhattan.

I have driven by this museum so many times and never have the time to go in. Last Saturday my husband and I were looking for something different to do and didn't want to fight the NYC crowds. I goggled the Katonah Museum to see what they were showing and was so thrilled to find an exhibit of Japanese warrior weapons and armor with an added attraction Kimonos. We took the short ride with plenty of outdoor parking and were so pleased with our experience. We toured the exhibits with the dossen( not sure if this is the correct spelling for the museum guide).He was wonderful it added so much to the experience to have the background of these amazing artifacts.What a treat to have this great museum so close to home and so convenient. We will definitely go back for future exhibits.

Very community driven, this is a special place for locals.There's lots of interaction with children, to get them excited about art.

Small well curated space with energetic helpful staff. Presently exhibiting works from Iceland. So well presented Iceland added to bucket list Recommend for all ages. There is a children's activity space. Bus accessible free parking .. good for day date and home schooling destination and play date. Limited gift shop bathroom one seater photography not allowed

small local museum with well curated exhibits. Currently through Sept an interesting exhibit on Iceland ...multi media. Town of katonah is adorable with cute shops and good restaurants. A lovely day trip from NYC since train station is in the middle of town and maybe 1/2 mile walk to museum.

I visited the Katonah Museum of Art yesterday with my mother. It is small (2 rooms of exhibits) but the exhibit was interesting. It was a pleasant excursion since we didn't have a lot of time. It would be a good stop on the way to Caramoor. That said, it's not worth a trip up from the city if this is all you're planning on seeing. For $10/pp, you have to really want to see what's being exhibited.

This small museum has had some well mounted exhibits. It is usually not crowded. One can park in their lot. The town is cute and worth a stroll.

"Eye to I... 3,000 Years of Portraits," the new exhibit at the Katonah Museum of Art is a blockbuster worthy of the Met or the National Gallery. It includes 60 portraits by mostly well-known artists from several continents working in a variety of media from etching to oil, from sculpture to live and computerized images, from antiquity to the present.If you're thinking that's a tall order for a regional museum with just two small galleries. It is. But it works, and the exhibition is breathtaking, dramatic and seductive.The exhibit has been marketed as an interactive experience. That's because it includes a touch-screen display of colorful icons, each showing an image of one of the works in the exhibit. Touching an icon calls up commentary by local personalities -- some of it enlightening, some inspirational, some just institutional -- and generally helpful notes from the curator. Visitors are encouraged to enter their own comments and notes.The touch-screen driven kiosk is a delightful curiosity. It's like looking out over Manhattan from the observation deck of the Empire State Building while using stereopticon images to validate the view. Fun, but not the real deal.The power and drama of the exhibit is more subtle and ineluctable than what you'll see in the touch-screen gallery. Walk through the exhibit slowly, devoting half a minute or more to each work of art. Once you stop trying to find a scheme -- it's not organized by artist, period, style, size, color, continent, media, owner, etc. -- you'll succumb to its power.Like a mosaic of photographic images stitched together by color and size, the exhibit is itself a work of art! It includes 60 pieces by artists ranging from Diane Arbus to Andy Warhol, many from private collections and never before exhibited. Two of our favorites were Martine Franck's photographic "Portrait of Henri Cartier-Bresson" and Red Grooms' sculpture "Mondrian," a portrait of Piet Mondrian.Go see it if you can.

great way to spend an hour or two. not unlike the bruce museum in greenwich. went hiking in nearby ward pound after.

Found this by accident as we were en route elsewhere. Stopped in as they had a sign out front regarding the Quilt Show that was going on. What a treasure! Small but beautifully presented with knowledgeable docents and guides. We will definitely be back. Just sorry we missed the previous .exhibit.

attended a networking function and it was just lovely. a little farther north but worth the drive and visit.

What's great about this museum is that it's suitable for all ages ... and even though you may not be into the subject of whatever they have up, by the time you leave you've learned so much and still enjoyed the exhibition. It is small, but that can be both a pro and a con...nice to have something to do with family for friends for an hour or so, and done! Friendly staff and very accessible.
