If you're a race fan you should visit this museum and hall of fame. It doesn't take long to check out all of the exhibits, but there are some interesting pieces.
I am leary of museums but having seen something on CNN´s Wining Post the week before, I made it a point to work a visit to this museum into my schedule. They only open at 1000 which complicated thinsg a bit.Everything is well organized and easy to follow around. There were very few other visitors that day so it was a great experience. Having been raised within a 40 mile radius of Saratoga Springs & followed the races as a child, I saw many familiar names from the 1940´s & B1950´s.
A fun thing to do with the family while visiting the beautiful city of Saratoga Springs. We enjoyed learning about the history of horse racing. Make this part of your get-away when you visit the track or go off-season when it may be quieter.
This is a beautifully organized and presented museum about horseracing. All of the history of the sport is here. There is plenty to engage everyone, with some special features for children. There are several interactive exhibits, such as videos of all of the Triple-Crown winners' races. It is worth the price of admission to see all three races for Secretariat and Affirmed; they are still astounding. If you are really ambitious and there is a museum staffer available, try the simulated race-ride on a mechanical Thoroughbred, with a live-action video screen (no flip-flops allowed). In addition to the permanent collection, there is usually a special exhibit on view. It is within walking distance of the race track and the Oklahoma training track.
You have like horse racing but, if you do, this museum is a must. It is well thought out and expensively produced. It describes the history and development of racing in USA from the beginning, era by era, and adds an enormous amount of background and context on the races, the horses and people involved in the sport. You can choose which parts to focus on and can spend an hour or a whole day, depending on your inclination.
I am not a fan of horse racing but I spent about an hour and a half just browsing through this museum. Really nice exhibits especially the horse surging out of the starting gate. Lots of famous horse information to be heard and seen. Jockeys were holding a fundraiser for injured jockeys the day we were there. They were happy to chat and sign autographs and talked about horses they had ridden and knew. Even my husband enjoyed it and he is not a horse person!
This Museum is a must for horse racing fans, They have two for one admission with AAA. There is so much history here, plaques ,paintings, pictures. there is a big electric betting tote board, a real starting gate, jockey silks and horse riding simulator. The garden has a statue of Secretariat that you can walk right up to. We went there about a week after the season closed so the were no crowds at all, we had the whole museum to ourselves. This should be on your list of things to do when in Saratoga
If your not a horse owner or jockey, you can get a picture by the Secretariat statue there since the public has no access to the original at Belmont Park paddock. also has a horse simulator to feel like a jockey and you get to dress in silks.
This is a MUST SEE!! I've been here 2x & love it. There is a children's play & learn area so bring the kids. The adults & teens will enjoy the artwork. Incredible paintings! Take the time to learn the history of racing. Best time to visit - before the track opens. The track parking lots get full quickly, so park by 9:30 - 10:00, cross the street & visit the museum 1st. Then be at the admission gate by 11:00. You cannot leave your car in the museum lot while at the track.
Wonderful park in which to walk, sit, and ride old historic Carousel. The whole town of Saratoga Springs is historical.
Interesting displays and artifacts about the history of the sport. Kept my attention even though I am only a casual fan.
Nice time, even for a casual Race fan like me... Lots a great exhibits and a nice Hall of Fame with big screen video
A good trip for anyone who likes horses. Ample parking is available in the rear of the museum. The history of horse racing is displayed in exhibits with emphasis on the Saratoga Track, the oldest in the nation. There are plenty of pictures and memorabilia of horse racing greats: horses, jockeys, owners, and trainers. There is a room dedicated to the anatomy of a horse and a room displaying the jockey's ready area at the track. Leaving from here early in the morning on certain days is a private tour of the Oklahoma training facilities and stables. Check at the ticket counter for dates and times.
Wonderful exhibits about racing. Like size horses even can ridea horse(not real) like a jockey. So much history. Beautiful horsepaintings. Movie of grand races from the past, Hall of Fame
Rather chilly staff and early store closure were downers to a visit we had looked forward to, having attended the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, and being regular visitors to Keeneland. Saw as much of the museum as we could in two hours, enjoying especially the display of a life-size model horse skeleton and labels about horse physiology; and the galleries about the history of horse racing. But we apparently postponed our souvenir Christmas ornament purchase too long, and the store clerk had no intention of reversing her closing process at 4:54, saying that if there aren't customers in the store she starts closing early.
