Just what you expect in a New England town, the common is quite pretty especially with the lights on the trees. With the Bethel Inn in the background it is so picture perfect
Recently visited the Bethel Hill Common in June 2014 with my wife. It was a Sunday and the town was very quiet. The Common is a nicely maintain park with a gazebo. It begins at the upper end of Main Street. The historic Bethel Inn Resort is located adjacent to the Common and a couple of the Resort's buildings are on the opposite side of the Common. There are a number of handsome old homes surrounding it. But, all in all there is nothing special about it unless there is a special activity going on such as Mollyockett Day, July 4th or some other event. I would recommend driving a short distance from the Common to see the beautiful Gould Academy Campus for high school students. Years ago there use to be celebrations and gatherings on the Common for Memorial Day and Veterans Day as well. If there is an event taking place I would feel more comfortable in considering a little higher
Went to the Mollyockett Days festival, the streets were shutdown to traffic and various craft and food vendors lined thestreets. At the gazebo on the common, there were more vendors, live music, a demonstration of Native Penobscotdrumming and dancing, and an awesome fireworks displayto top it all off!You have to experience it!
We walked to the Bethel HIll Common- a lovely location surrounded by handsome restored homes, on our recent trip in the Bethel area and were pleased to find an annual Arts and Crafts Fair on the Green. It was a lovely event with many excellent artisans and crafters. The day was an enjoyable adventure in Bethel, Maine.
Bethel is a lovely place to visit. Everyone is friendly and glad to share information about their community. We got the walking map from information center and it was a great way to really see the homes and churches, etc. Descriptions were very helpfull about each home on the historic tour.
Close by and a nice evening walk. The town is beautiful and what a nice way to end the day with your wife or ....
4th of July & Art Show weekend are my favorites. Food , music and wonderful, talented artists to meet and purchase a special something.
Bethel has it all and it commences at the Town Common. Here you can find the library, historical society, and much more. This is a very walking friendly town with lots to see and do.
The Bethel Common offers a nice spot to sit and enjoy the center of the Bethel village. It is the site of several summer and fall festivals, including Sunday afternoon concerts during the summer.
Great place to go on a bad weather day. Prices are reasonable.
