I went on a moose watching tour with Matt last summer and had an excellent experience. Matt called me beforehand to understand what I wanted and crafted a tour based on my goals. He took me on a canoe trip to a secluded lake and we saw plenty of moose and two bald eagles. Matt also showed me different locations in the area that are frequented by moose so that I could search on my own. He has a deep knowledge of moose and other wildlife, as well as the local area. I enjoyed my tour so much that I am going on another one this summer. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone - from the novice like myself to a more seasoned moose watcher.
Sorry to see Matt Tinker on Trip Advisor – it just means his time will be more in demand and harder to book! I just got back from two days out with Matt on 6/4 & 6/5 two great kayaking trips. One trip to the Kennebago Logans and the other thru the Chain of Ponds. I saw and photographed Eagles, Loons and Moose. My wife and I have been using Matt for several years now. Two trips a year - One trip in the spring and a Moose Calling trip during the rut in the fall. My favorite hobby is Moose Watching (photography) and I have spent many years in the Allagash Region of Maine pursuing Moose. I wanted to share the experience with my wife – but without the remote wilderness trek required for the best Moose Watching areas. It was a lucky day when we booked with Green Farm.Matt Tinker has very attractive pricing and is very flexible with trip planning and activities. He has always customized trips to our needs and abilities. My wife and I have many stories about our adventures with Matt. The first year Moose Calling with Matt, he was able to stalk two Bull’s and managed to get my wife within 30 yards of one of them for some great photos. I was hanging back approximately 40 yards so that I could frame my wife, Matt and the Bull in a pic – when it appeared to leave by walking downhill. I was mistaken – the Bull chose to lie down in front of them! Matt has an easy non-threatening way with Moose that seems to enable him to get close for great photo ops. I thought this was a fluke – Matt did it again our second year. After spending two days in the woods with no results – we were headed out when Matt spied a cow and calf. He stopped and once again had my wife within 30 yards of them taking great photos. One of my wife’s favorite experiences occurred last fall. Matt had called a young Bull out to us. We thought it had winded either my wife or me as it abruptly disappeared back into the woods. Matt made some bull grunts and was answered by a loud coyote that sounded like it was 20 yards behind the tree line. Matt then gave some coyote barks and yips – and was answered by a chorus of coyotes that were all around us. (In front, to one side and behind us) None were visible – but a very fascinating & eerie experience that we will never forget. No one can give a 100% guarantee that you will see Moose or wild life– it depends on a lot of factors. We have had a couple of trips with no visual activity, yet the signs were all around us. This has happened with all the guides I have patronized at one time or another. Even on the few slow trips – it is always a great time and educational. Matt is part hunter, part naturalist, part conservationist and part teacher. He has knowledge of the area that is amazing. Here is one Moose Spotting secret I have learned over the years. If you want to increase your chance of seeing Moose – you need to go where they live – and go with someone that knows their habits and ways. In the Rangeley – Stratton area, you cannot do better than Matt Tinker.
Matt is a superlative guide. He took my husband and me on a wonderful hike in the woods up to a fabulous waterfall. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable of his environment, and wonderfully capable of assessing the individual needs and abilities of his clients to ensure that they have the maximum enjoyment of their guided tour. I can't speak highly enough of his abilities, and of how much we enjoyed our tour with Matt.
Matt and I went 'moose spotting' on an evening and early morning to expand my photo inventory of critters. While no one can guaranty a moose will show up, or cooperate with the photographer, Matt knew the local spots to search and was diligent and dedicated to my cause which was much appreciated. It was a great & successful experience - my trip ended with some photos of cooperative moose ~ !
