We really enjoyed a day trip to this great state park. There is a lengthy beach with wheelchair accessibility. There is a playground. The beach is sandy and the water was very nice -- not terribly cold. There are restrooms and changing rooms. We went on a weekday and there were quite a few people, including large groups of day camp kids, but I could not call it 'crowded.' Picnic tables appeared a little scarce at first, but later I took a walk and noticed they extended well into the wooded areas a bit away from the beach -- nice if you want more shade, peace and quiet. You can put in your canoe or kayak but as another reviewer said, that area is quiet busy. You can sit in the wooded area, on sandy beach or on the grass. There is a second beach which we could see across the water but we did not visit it. I would definitely return to this park and may consider camping in the area in order to visit there for multiple days of a vacation.
There is a very nice child area playground. The sandy beach is clean. The water is good to swim in starting around May, some Mainers say it is too warm, but I prefer that to the ice cold ocean. There is a nice ice cream place in Poland nearby. 2 large bathroom/changing areas.
We use Range Pond for kayaking. From one end to the other is 2 miles. The boat ramp can get busy. We find that by getting there by 10:00AM we avoid the crowds. Clean beach and clear waters.
I love to kayak here ,it is a easy boat ramp to load in and take out! Paddling out to the right is a eagles nest you can not miss,it is huge!! The state park only allows up to 10 horsepower motors. Nice I am easily intimidated by big boat waves, you won't find that here. There is an easy paddle to Frenchman beach,a great place to swim it is sandy and gradual, you can also walk to this beach,it is never crowded and quite quiet! The state park is clean ,well maintained ,with bathhouses that have flush toilets and changing rooms. There is also the state park beach with lifeguards and roped off swimming. Fun for all.
Range Ponds State Park is off the beaten path at the intersection of State Park Road and Empire Road which is off Route 122. It’s within a few miles of Poland Spring Resort and within an easy drive from the Lewiston-Auburn area. It's also not far from Sebago Lake State Park in Casco. Its best features are the swimming area of the lake and the wide sandy beach for sun-lovers. For those who prefer shade, there are picnic tables and plenty of spaces for beach and lawn chairs out of the sun near and under the trees. There are a few charcoal grills. There are plenty of restrooms in two buildings. Activities include swimming, picnicking, canoeing, boating, paddle-boarding, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, walking, hiking, and wildlife-watching. There is one lifeguard on duty at the beach. There are about 2 miles of easy trails that were once of old logging roads and railroad beds.Handicap-accessible enhancements have been added. One is a ramp into the lake. There was also a beach wheelchair near the entrance to the beach. It appeared to be a free loaner. There is also a new group shelter and a playground. There is a trailered boat launch at the far end of the beach area. The boaters, kayakers, and paddle-boarders stayed well away from the roped-off beach area.Admission prices are: Adult Maine Resident: $4.50Adult Non-Resident: $6.50Senior Maine Resident: FreeSenior Non-Resident: $2.00Children 5 - 11 years old: $1.00Children under 5 are free.On the day I visited, it was a perfect day for all activities. There were about 40 visitors. Everyone had plenty of room to spread out and have a degree of privacy. Families enjoyed the water. The youngsters were really having a great time. Many younger and older adults without children enjoyed listening to iPods and radios while reading books and magazines or doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles. I caught up on reading some magazines. Nearby, one fellow on a reclining beach chair was so totally into the relaxation mode that he was motionless for over ½ hour. I had a very pleasant, relaxing day there. It's a great place to unwind while enjoying fresh air, a lake, and the woods. The park was very clean. There was not so much as one speck of trash anywhere when I left at 5:00 PM.
This is just an average campground . there is nothing to do there but relax. Not much for the kiddo's . the main thing is fishing and that is about it.
It's a nice low key place with good swimming and picnic tables. It's really a beautiful spot no matter what time of year you visit. Even at it's busiest in the heat of the summer, it still doesn't feel too crazy.
This beach has a lot of children. No food facilities, but good rest room facilities. The water is nice and the beach is sandy. Great local hangout. Plenty of parking available. Nice group area if you have an event planned. Hiking trail is a nice walk.
We have spent a lot of time here over the past several years and we love this hidden gem in Poland, Maine. A large and beautiful beach, lifeguards, clean rest rooms and outside (cold water) showers. Parking runs the whole back of the beach so it's easily accessable to every part of the beach and there is plenty of it. So many birthdays and celebrations have taken place here and created so many memories. Friendly staff .. dogs allowed but NOT on the beach and must be on a leash. Small hibachi's available to cook hotdogs on but we always bring our grille because we love to cook and those hibachi's are just too small.
A lovely park, wonderful walking trails, wonderful view of the ponds, as well as awesome changing rooms. Would go there again!
This is a great place to spend the day with your family. There are picnic tables near the woods (get there early to get one). I love that they have bathrooms and changing rooms.
I love going to the beach but hate the crowds. Here, it's peaceful & busy all at the same time. We had a great time here! It was a beautiful place, the water surrounded by trees & mountains. Plenty of beach to lay back and enjoy, water is great temperture. There's a playground area for the kids. There are some trails. There was a boat launch. Basically anything outdoors you want, it's there.
Great place to hike and swim. Very clean lake and beautiful grounds.
popular yet never over crowded. gorgeous place for a day of swimming, and picnicking.
From Google maps this looks like a run-of-the-mill park with a lake. In person, it is something else. I have never seen such beautiful lake shores, clear water and well-kept buildings. there was a t least 300 yards of lake shore which still had the grooming marks from the night before. Not a speck of trash. We were there on a Monday morning and shared the beach with about 10 other people. the water was clear enough to see your toes in 6' depth. The areas to change in were well kept. The bathrooms were clean and completely operational. It was our 1st trip to Maine and this one experience was enough to make us want to come back.
