We stopped to see this on our way to the Newport Mansions. It was pretty cool. It wasn't open that day but that was ok. There were signs to read and everything was nice and neat. There was a new gazebo to the left of it and an 1875 one room schoolhouse, Paradise School to the left of that. We were glad we took the few minutes to stop and look for this. It's listed as Paradise Ave but I believe we got to it off Prospect Ave.

A very simple and effective trail up and down the windmill explains how and why it works the way it does. Very steep stairs, so not suitable for disabled. Worth a quick visit if you are in the area.

I was very impressed with Boyd's Wind Grist Mill. It's certainly a sight that you can't see just anywhere. It's just a very short drive from Newport, over in Middletown, RI. The windmill is located in a very nice little park with a decent amount of parking available. The park features a walking trail that winds through the landscape- it's not very long, so you could easily do a few laps to get a really nice walk in.The windmill itself is beautiful. When I was there, it wasn't moving, but it's still an impressive sight against the Rhode Island sky. The park itself is quite peaceful and well laid out. There's a few stations that provide information about the windmill. I would highly recommend stopping here. It's away from the busiest parts of Newport and it provides a relaxing, calm environment and a beautiful windmill to see.

Fascinating history, well worth a visit, open for tours only on certain days in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Try to go to one of the "Running of the Mill" events to really see this thing fly.

Boyd's Windmill is a living piece of history. This fully-restored and fully operational mill is located in idyllic Paradise Park in Middletown, Rhode Island. I never get tired of watching the huge vanes turning in the wind during the annual Running of Boyd's Mill event sponsored by the Middletown Historical Society. Just to walk the paths in this peaceful place is worth a trip.

There is an area for hiking if you have time. The windmill was nice enough. There was a decent size parking lot. Maps to show you the area were found on site.

We got a lot of great photos of the Grist Mill located in Paradise Valley Park in Middletown, RI. This is a short drive from Newport and is worth a stop to see the mill and it is a nice park as well. On the park grounds are a few short trails, an old schoolhouse building. Daffodils were in bloom in April. Cute little park for a short stop. The Middletown Historical society maintains the mill and believe it is open to tour inside on special occasions.

We have driven down Prospect Rd before and never noticed this beautiful old windmill. The park is open, nice place for a short walk but we just enjoyed seeing and reading about this windmill.
