I'm quite sad to see other reviews of this zoo as negative. I think this is a wonderful little gem we have here in Montana. I have been to many other big-city zoo's and this is our favorite. It is reliable, and you can tell the animals are well-taken care of. I appreciate the time the owners put into this amazing little place. We typically go in the fall/spring, but I'm sure in the summer it's just as exciting, if not more exciting. My daughter loves coming here, and it's just enough to not overwhelm anyone. I love this place!
Thanks for the visit. I am sorry to hear you did not thoroughly enjoy your visit. We have over 100 animals of 56 different species, so am I sorry you did not see more on your trip. The otters, tigers and Red Pandas are usually quite active. We are a growing Zoo and have come a long way over the past 3 years, so you can expect the additions and upgrades to continue, including a new playground for your granddaughters to enjoy. Keep in mind, we are seasonal Zoo, so despite being open, many of our services are not, such as a concession stand. As for the Bear, Ozzy, he comes from a rough background. He was brought to us from Yellowstone National Park after causing one too many problems. He has bad anxiety from being harassed. He has come leaps and bounds from where he was several years ago, in fact he's nearly unrecognizable from where he was when we received him. The pacing is diminishing, but still a hurdle we want to overcome. Thanks again for your visit, we hope to see you again in the future.Jeff EweltZooMontana
Thank you for your visit! I truly appreciate your kind and am happy to hear you had a good time. We take pride in the fact that we are a very "natural" zoo and want folks to see it as a walk in the park. We pledge to continue that ideology as we grow into the future!Jeff EweltZooMontana
Thanks for your visit! I'd love to talk you into reconsidering a membership, as there are many perks to it. As we continue to grow, you will find many changes occurring as the months go on. On top of this, members receive discounts or free admission to our many events such as Boo at the Zoo as well as getting free admission to over 40 other zoos around the country, including the Sanctuary in Red Lodge. So as you can see, there are many perks! Regardless, we hope to see you again.Jeff EweltZooMontana
Thank you for the kind words! We take pride in the fact that we are a natural Zoo. We hope folks see their visit as more of a walk in the park. We have many events as you mentioned and really focus our efforts on the kids. We look forward to seeing you this summer!Jeff EweltZooMontana
Thank you for your wonderful support!! We look forward to seeing your family for years to come!!Jeff EweltZooMontana
Hello,Thank you for your visit and for your kind words. I am glad to hear you had a nice time. Yes, the recent wind has taken out almost all of our leaves, but you are correct, the fall foliage was remarkable this year. Keep in mind for future visits, the bears here don't hibernate and you can actually see them outside on occasion throughout the winter. It's quite a site seeing a Grizzly Bear playing in the snow! Thanks for the support and we hope to see you again soon!Jeff EweltExecutive DirectorZooMontana
Hello Kristian,Thank you for your visit to ZooMontana. I am glad to hear you had fun, but sorry to hear it wasn't what you expected. We have never advertised ourselves as a large Zoo, in fact, we take pride in the fact that we are a small organization that focuses our exhibits around nature. For us, it's more about how to immerse our guests into nature rather than how many animals we have. For the record, our official numbers are 106 animals of 56 different species. Thanks again for the support and we hope to see you again as we continue to grow!Jeff EweltExecutive DirectorZooMontana
Thank you for coming out to ZooMontana. We too love the egg plant, such a cool plant! If you are in the area in May, we do a great event called GeraniumFest and we actually sell them! We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you again.Jeff EweltExecutive DirectorZooMontana

Thank you for the visit. It's too bad you did not enjoy the facility. I will be the first to say that we have worked very hard over the past two years to bring ZooMontana back. In the process, we have brought in many jobs, created joy in many children and provided a caring space for many animals. We have invested all revenues back into the facility from grounds, to exhibits to infrastructure. We certainly have a long way to go, but we are proud of our progress. Many of the areas that you mentioned are often perceived as disrepair, however, are anything but. We keep much of the grounds natural. This includes tall prairie grasses and wildflowers. We work closely with the county to keep weeds under control. Our botanical society does the same. As for the water within animal enclosures (pools, not drinking water), we elect not to use chemical treatment for the health of the animal. So water you are seeing is not filthy, it's natural. Water is filtered 24 hours a day and completely changed out every week. Natural bottom pools gives it a darker appearance as well. We're not into the swimming pool look here. Again, we thank you for the visit and hope the next time you come you can see our work in a different light.Jeff EweltExecutive DirectorZooMontana
Thank you for visiting the Zoo. I am sorry to hear of your disappointments. The Red Pandas were out, they must have been down low for some reason. I am happy to say we have 8 peacocks roaming the grounds. Most of them stay near the Homestead House. Several of them also hang out in the main plaza. I am also sorry to hear about the staffing issues. We are working hard to ensure customer service is top notch, so it's a bummer to hear your experience was not. As you stated, we have worked very hard over the past 2 years to completely turn the Zoo around and will continue to do so. Thanks for seeing the potential and for the visit.Jeff EweltExecutive Director
