We camped for two nights in the Holly River State Park. The lots were spacious, woodsy, & near rippling streams. The area was very quiet, clean, and the rest room and shower facilities were more than adequate for an older campground. The price was right, too, esp. for seniors. They have a full service restaurant on the grounds with delicious dinners and desserts. While experiencing a torrential downpour on our first evening, we enjoyed hot roast beef and gravy sandwiches on homemade bread, mashed potatoes and homemade carrot cake for dessert. The restaurant is open from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. which provides a nice change from camp fare. Don't miss the beautiful waterfall at the park. Beautiful wooded paths and decks lead to the fabulous falls!

We have stayed at Holly River State Park many, many times in the past 14 years. I have never done a review because I really don't want to let the cat out of the bag, but it's really unfair to not review it! The cabins, while they are standard and nothing fancy, are very nice. The hiking is awesome and the serenity is wonderful. We have stayed both in the spring and fall and both seasons are nice and Holly River. Cabins are clean too. There is no cell service at the cabin area, but there is some sketchy service in the mountains where hiking. There are both short and long hiking trails. It is nice to go when the weather is cold and have a fire in the open fire place! It is our favorite place to visit!

Holly River is in the middle of nowhere....That's the purpose. Little or NO cell service just nature at it's best. Large campsites with electric and updated shower/restroom facilities. They also have cabins nestled at the far end of the park. Have also stayed there and enjoyed the tranquility. For a taste of home, the lodge office also houses a fantastic eatery....Debbie runs the place and owns a catering business. Her homemade dishes and desserts are out of this world. We make it a point to stay at Holly River every year and give up a night of cooking at camp and always have breakfast there on our way out

Holly River was a beautiful side trip for our fall leaf-peeping trip down through W. Va. It has a glorious array of colors. We ran into a couple of the rangers who were extremely helpful and pointed out a fantastic short hike down to some waterfalls and a natural chute on the stream. There is clearly a lot of tree damage (mainly tops taken out, perhaps by Sandy?) but all of the areas we hiked were in great shape. We want to try the cabins on our next trip. One other point-the bathrooms are far above the standard that one expects in a outdoors area. We were very impressed with everything that the staff has done.

I love Holly River! We usually visit in the off season when the restuarant is closed, so it was a real treat to be in the area during peak season-we got to eat and it was worth the wait. Delicious food and great prices. This was our first trip back since Sandy and we were really worried about what we would find. What a relief! Holly River is still Holly River, always will be, no matter what. This is due in large part to the superhuman effort park employees have made to restore this very special place. Thanks to them, Holly River is still a relaxing, magical retreat. We'll be back soon-

Our hiking options were seriously limited by the significant tree damage caused by heavy snowfall from Hurricane Sandy last fall. Power was restored to the park only a few weeks ago, and telephone service is just now being repaired. But the setting is beautiful, and the cabins are open (although not the restaurant).

...easy access for travelers to make a true connection with nature! The drive is short but once there the part does in fact take over.

The drive from Webster Springs to Holly River State Park was breathtaking with the Fall foilage in full color. The restaurant inside the park (can't remember if it had a different name), was really awesome. Highly recommend driving this beautiful county.

If you love being in the woods, you must stay here! My husband & I stayed in the cabins & it was amazing. Built of log and stone by the CCC in the late 1930's, they were immaculate and cozy. We fell asleep in the comfy bed listening to the river and awoke to deer grazing out front. Heath Miles, the assistant superintendant, shared several local gems with us that really enhanced our stay. The rates are really reasonable & well worth it. Several tips I can share-bring your own pillows & towels(there are never enough anywhere), bring food-the kitchen is well equipped and the restuarant is only open seasonally, be prepared to be unplugged-no tv,cell phone or internet, relax & enjoy yourself. We will be back often.
