My party had booked a house with Livinggood Lodging for Trailfest 2015 on March 6th. On March the 9th I got a call saying that Livinggood got a call from Dirt Trax magazine saying they wanted that week. Needless to say, my party of 14 will not be at Trailfest. We got thrown straight under the bus so they can get a plug from a magazine or TV show at the cost of us. And to top it off they are the mayors of Gilbert???

We were there for two days, the Buffalo and the Bearwallow trails are certainly not your usual trails, after you get used to the rocks anf rough terrain, and hairpin turns it was a good test to what the ORV can do ( Razor800RZRS) we had a good time. Don't expect a smooth trail or lots of places to stop and have lunch, the trails are true mountain side trails , your on the edge and no room for error, it was a experience for sure.

This is a GREAT geocaching area. The Hatfield McCoy trail is a MEGA site in the fall and a geocacher MUST-VISIT destination. You can rack up several hundred caches on the country roads here and learn the history of the feud by visiting actual historic homesites and cemeteries. But be careful to pull OFF the roads for safety. And be aware of ATV traffic. ATV is a normal mode of transportation locally so look twice! I stayed at the Sweet Dreams Suites (formerly Sumer8) and is was perfect as a sleepover between cache trails. All fast food chains are present on 119 near Williamson and gas was $3.28.

Picked up a CD from the tourism office in Pikeville. The map was helpful. Just beware that some of the sights are not marked from the road, so you may need to do some hunting. It was an enjoyable tour. We did it on a Saturday. The Preacher Anse cabin was open. And a local resident that lives next to the Randell McCoy homestead sight was out and offered wonderful information about the feud and local sights as well as a nice collection of pictures. It was a very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

I admit my experience with trail riding is limited, having only just begun to ride 3 years ago and haven't ventured west of Tennessee. But with all the trails I've rode (multiple) the HM trails are, by far, the best. They are well marked and maintained. The people we have met on these trails are nice and polite. They are a bit pricey but well worth the price - especially if you come back multiple times. I'm a bit disappointed that they don't offer a military discount as most of the other trails in the region. We took our motor coach and stayed at Ashland ATV resort a few times as well as taking just the truck/trailer and stayed at a motel - both were fun but have to admit the camping was more relaxing (though not by much). LOL. Definitely not enough for the extra gas spent pulling the motorcoach (with bigger trailer) up those mountain roads. Overall, absolutely great experience and I WILL BE BACK !!

The trails over Memorial weekend were dusty on the shared road portions. The rest of the trails were a blast. We rode several of the blue trails on the HM trail map and found them in better shape then some of the easy green trails. This is the first time riding in this area, and found the towns connected to trails that you can ride into were starting to get cater to the ATV crowd, but are no where close to what you find near the Rockhouse trails with the towns of Man and Gilbert. We stayed in Pineville at Trails lodging which is downtown. Rooms were great and newly remodeled. Parking on the other hand is very limited and the local police are eager to let you know where you can't park with a ticket. The town has several places to eat like Tudors bisquit world which has great breakfast and then a mexican restaurant which I don't recall the name that is good. Also have a Dairy queen and several stores. We really enjoyed our ride on the Pinnacle creek trail sytem, but still think the rockhouse trail is the favorite with all the different types of scenary and the atv friendly towns around it.

We rode Pinnacle, Indian Ridge and Pocahontas Trail systems. All 3 were great. Pocahontas is still failry new so it was a little open and dusty but the trails were still great. All trail systems have a variety of difficuly. We all have UTVs and were able to go on all the trails except the Extreme Difficult and some Most Difficult. We only saw 1 ranger the whole time we were there, he didn't stop us or anything though. We wore our helmets the whole time and made sure to left almost all of our beer at the motel. It was hard to find the trail heads and where to buy passes. You can buy passes at the Pinnacle trail head but not at Indian Ridge, not sure about Pocahontas trail head. Pinnacle trail head is off HWY 16 on a road right across the street from an old Marathon. Indian Ridge in on HWY 17 by an old Ashland Company building. FYI the people at Ashland Resort are very helpful giving directions even if you aren't staying there. These trails were well worth our trip and we are planning on going back later this year.

Thrills for all riders from Granny to the youngest. They rate the trails by color...green for the easy riders to black for the biggest thrill seekers.

In the hills of west virginia so you are either all uphill or all downhill. Not much in the way of muddy trails. Not for inexperienced riders. A few wrecks on our three day ride but all in all had a blast. Recommend.

just recently rode the trails for the first time , love it , great fun , and the cabin i rented was awesome {Samwhitecabins }located in verdunville wv , got there number from a local , when the hotels were all booked up , beautiful cabin with family fun ,what could be better than that

The Hatfield-McCoy trail system is very good, and highly promoted (which is good for southern WV), but it's pricey, and unfortunately H-M only promotes their trails near Logan & Man, WV. Their other trails, such as Indian Ridge (Ashland), Bramwell, and Pinnacle Creek (Pineville), which all connect, and make a great ride, get no coverage, no events, no nothing. Most people who come to so. WV to ride ATVs come to ride the 100s of miles of FREE trails in McDowell County, which has some of THE best trails in the eastern USA. And it's LEGAL to ride on the roads in McDowell County, too, so you can ride from wherever you're staying right to the trails! AND pick wild blackberries all July, too!

If you enjoy riding then these trails are a must see . views from the trails, the food in the towns, mud holes and water i ride these trails often since i am only 20 min from them

Having just got into mountain biking I am now ready to give up because the people I have come across are stuck up they are only concerned with what bike you have and how much it cost I blame things like mbuk who perpetuate the myth that you have to spend upwards of 2k for you to enjoy the sport. I just wish these idiots would put any energy they have to ride and not scoff at people whose bikes are cheaper than theirs. Scott

3 years and 3 trips a year. The trails never let us down. We have been on all trails except Little Coal and Pocahontas. Those will be included in our next trip in spring.

The self-guided driving tour needs to have more thought put into it. The historical markers were not always easy to locate. The one cemetery that was open is in need of tender, loving care.
