summersville lake lighthouse

Didn't know there is such a beautiful lighthouse in WV. I'm glad we didn't miss it for our fall advanture. The view is beautiful from the top to the bottom, especially in Autumn with all red, yellow, glod trees. It's not far from summersville Lake/Dam, worth a stop.

Hearing the story of how this lighthouse was conceived and came to be is fascinating and climbing it to see the view is very cool! You don't hear of lighthouses being built these days and seeing it and learning how the community came together to see this project through is fun. If you like lighthouses, don't miss this one and even if you aren't a lighthouse aficionado, you'll enjoy a stop at this cool attraction not far from the New River Gorge bridge. It's well worth a stop.

The Summersville Lake Lighthouse is an interesting site to visit. The view from the top is beautiful. Also, the engineering of the structure is fascinating. Friendly owners.

Who'd have thought of a lighthouse in the middle of the mountains of WV? Yep....it's a rebuilt wind turbine & is actually a functioning lighthouse...walk the 122 steps to the top & get a great view of Summersville Lake. The gift shop & staff were extremely helpful & friendly.

The story about how this lighthouse came to be is enough for you to want to see it in person...the added joy of saying you climbed a lighthouse...in West Virginia, is just too much. The confused looks on folks faces as they feverishly try to work out the geography in their minds is great! The tour is guided, which is a plus or a minus depending on your likes...but you do get a nice birds eye view of the lake...and surrounding area..(not that there is a lot out there to see) Its all about the experience...its not a ton of stairs, ant they are wider then most lighthouses...its a very cool stop, with gift shop to boot.
