This is a must visit place on Saturday mornings. Great cajun atmospher where friends get together to play true cajun music.
Glorious music, the best "session" I have ever been to (twice) Marc himself comes across as a smashing person as well as being a fabulous musician and keeper of the cajun tradition and heritage. If you're in Louisiana you must go.
A bunch of locals and musicians hanging out, trying new music, teaching each other and welcoming guest and friends with local foods like boudin and crackling. That is Savoy's Music Center on a Saturday Morning. Other than that it is an accordion factory, and houses one of the most musically talented family around. If you want to experience a touch of Cajun culture and see what it really means to be an Acadian it is a must stop.
If you are staying in Eunice on a Saturday, and are there because of the Cajun music and traditions, don't miss this Saturday morning, "jam session." The room fills with half of the people there actually playing instruments. This true folk outpost for traditional Cajun music is a great way to experience the culture, and it will be hard to find a more welcoming site.
A free jam session of Cajun Music on a Saturday morning in Eunice, LA - what a great way to spend a Saturday morning. At least one of the participants in the jam session is a member of the Cajun Music Hall of Fame.
We stayed for awhile and watched the musicians play cajun music. It was super cool and everyone was very kind.
No dislikes, nice people, wonderful music! Met a lot of really nice people. My friends and I want to go back again.
Wonderful way to hear traditional Cajun music, not amplified so you hear the clear, soft blended sounds of guitar, violin, piano and accordion....beautiful. Local musicians young and old gather up front with the audience sitting on rows of chairs behind them. Opened on Saturdays from 9 to noon it is a way to experience the older generation share their music knowledge and experience with several teenagers and this day a little boy playing the triangle. Very informal this was a nice way to spend a Saturday morning. The store offered boudin and cracklings to eat and fresh coffee. They have an extensive selection of Cajun music CDs available as well as Cajun food cookbooks and interesting tee-shirts and mugs. Wonderful experience.
music lovers will enjoy this jam session. most of the musicians live in the area. Real Cajuns love their music and visitors flock to this Saturday morning entertainment. Sometimes there is even dancing!.
Saturday morning at the Savoy Music Center is one of the great experiences in Cajun country. There is no admision charge and it is an opportunity to hear both the older generation and the youngsters. It is a wonderful place that keeps the tradition alive.
great morning jam session. be polite, bring a snack and be part of the community. if you don't play, just stand back and take everything in. its truly a gift.
Open from 9am til noon every Saturday morning, Marc Savoy invites guest musicians to join in (but you better be good). Some of the older, local Cajun musicians turn up for this little get together, mostly speaking Cajun French.
The Savoy Music Center holds a jam session every Saturday morning. Even if you don't play an instrument it is a great place to come and listen to local music played in a welcoming atmosphere.Mark Savoy is known for the cajun accordions that he makes at the shop and his “take me as I am” philosophy.
It was very homey and the locals were very cordial.
Every Saturday morning, Savoy's has a Cajun jam made up of whomever shows up with an instrument. If you want to hear good old Cajun music done by people who've been playing for years and years and years, this is the place to go. As the name states, Savoy's is a music store that sells books, CD's, instruments, etc. It's not a lounge or anything like that. They basically have chairs out, and you sit next to the musician's sitting in a circle and in rows depending on how many people show up, and they just play. It's a great stop if you're in the area, and just 15mins aproximately from Mamou if you are at Fred's.
