Have taken several trolley buses during the stay and plan to use them to get around.Yes, they can be crowded (especially if there has been an accident on the tracks) and there can also be unexpected delays. But it is part of experiencing the city, so it is a must

A day pass for 3 dollars is a good value. Note the wait times can be very long especially the garden line.

Just like the San Francisco cable cars, riding the streetcars in New Orleans is all part of "the experience." They are slow and uncomfortable, but you HAVE to do it. The St. Charles line is definitely worth it as it meanders through the Garden District and the most beautiful part of the city. You'll love it or hate it, but you have to do it to figure that out!

There is a good deal in the $3./person all day pass, but you should know that your wait may be really long! On a Saturday we planned to take the St. Charles line from Lee's Circle toward the Garden District, but after waiting about 15 min. with folks who'd been there longer, we were advised by a group walking that the cars were full and not adding passengers. So, as an alternative we decided to walk in the opposite direction, toward the French quarter. We were glad that we did because we got all the way to Canal street and still didn't see one coming. Might be better during the week, but much different experience than San Francisco.

Many people talk about how rude the drivers are, and some were, but thats anywhere you go. We rode the Canal Street car from City Park to Harrahs and it dropped us close to everthing. Then we rode the street car to the French Quaters. $3 for all day was worht not driving in Downtown New Orleans and paying 15 bucks to park. It was fun to ride and you got to see all types of folks.

It wants to be a charming, tourist experience but what it really is is public transportation and it just isn't up to the task. This was a Wednesday/Thursday experience so hate to think what weekends are like. Not enough street cars, too many people. Waited almost an hour for one car, and at another time, gave up& walked. Canal line & Riverfront lines were fine. Too bad, could really be a great way to travel from downtown to points west.

We hopped on the riverfront trolley just to let our son have the experience. Buildings blocked most of the river view :-( He enjoyed the ride and I enjoyed resting my feet. The wait times weren't terrible but it was a little confusing this being our first ride on the streetcars. I was a little disappointed as we had to pay for the ride both ways.

A trip to NOLA wouldn't be complete without a streetcar ride. Very inexpensive mode of transportation around the French Quarter and Uptown (Garden District). HOWEVER - be prepared to wait. Possibly a REALLY long time. We gave up waiting one evening and just walked to our destination. And after the wait, you just may be lucky enough to grab a seat. Good luck though.

We stayed at a B&B north of I10 off of Canal Street. During our stay we visited many attractions and never moved our car. For $3 a day you get a RTA day pass. This allows you access to the streetcars as well as the bus system. This enables you to go just about anywhere in N.O. I would recommend you take a short ride ($1.25) on one, even if you are not staying in N.O.

We travelled the canal street trolley to get to the WWII museum which had a stop two blocks away. It was fun and easy to get from the French Quarter.

Of course you have to ride the trolley if you are in NOLA. With that said, be prepared for: 1) Potentially long waits for a trolley to your intended destination -- we waited about 20+ minutes each way; 2) a very crowded ride...and the potential that you will standing the entire way...probably more true on the weekends and for select routes; 3) a slow ride -- a cab will get you to your destination in less than half the time...so you can't be in a hurry; 4) have exact change -- $1.25 one way or $3.00 for a day pass. It's fun...it's cheap...and it's part of New Orleans.

What a great way to get around the city. $3 for an all day pass which we used a good bit. very clear maps so you can figure out how to get from one line to the other. Most of the drivers were the nicest people who went out of their way to help everyone - especially if they thought they were lost. nice way to ride to the end of the lines and see the sights as well as just a way to get around. All were very clean.

The price is right for the street cars and they take you where you want to go, but they are not reliable. They have screens to tell you when the next streetcar is coming, but they were rarely correct. Despite all the waiting, it was a good way to get around.

erich378

The NO RTA street cars are fun and nostalgic to ride, and they take you just about anywhere you want to go. However, the times are way, way off. There are times you will wait 40 minutes for a street car, and then 3 will come in a row. Get your stuff together RTA! Part of the problem is that the service is operated by a private, not a public company.

GENEANDALICE

No need for a rental car in NOLA. Use these convenient and classic streetcars. We purchased the 3 day pass, pick up a map of the routes and you are set! Better than using cabs on the narrow streets of NOLA.
