Surrounded by seediness and beauty, this Cathedral lends some balance and, perhaps, helps to keep things in perspective. It's a beautiful landmark and a great place to start any tour of New Orleans.
A good stop for any good (or bad) Catholic. Genuflect and have a quiet moment of reflection in this beautiful landmark.
This is not a museum, it's an operating cathedral. Sited on one of the noisiest sections of the French Quarter, it's a quiet respite from the constant party going on outside on Jackson Square. Beautiful building, and accomomdating staff who understand that noise is part of the world of the Quarter, and hold their masses in spite of it. Also located between two NOLA museums that are very worthwhile.
Awesome place to take a true rest from the city. It's free, quiet, peaceful, and a museum in itself. Photographs are allowed inside and you WILL want to bring your camera. And masses are still celebrated here.
I stop in this church each time I'm in the city. I light candles for love ones that I've lost, sometimes attend mass, and was actually on holiday when Pope John Paul II passed away and went to early mass that morning. The architecture is beautiful, the gift shop is a bit cramped but offers some beautiful items. Sometimes the tourists can get a bit loud but for the most part, they do respect those who go in for daily prayer. If you are an Anne Rice fan, the park in front of the Cathedral plays a major role in her groundbreaking novel, "The Tail of the Body Thief".
The Cathedral is lovely, but a visit would not be complete without mass. The sermons at this cathedral are beautiful and uplifting.
Gorgeous church from the outside and inside. We had to step inside for a peek just to see how beautiful.
Check out the back of the cathedral at night for a great photo opp with the statue of Christ throwing a huge shadow on the cathedral. This landmark is right on Jackson Square where buskers and fortune tellers line the square day and night. All manner of tours leave from out front (from Ghosts to Vampires- all quite a hoot but wear comfy shoes).
The architecture was appealing and the church appeared as though it were freshly painted including the iconography.
St. Louis Cathedral is a beautiful historic church in the center of Jackson Square. Lots of deep history in this beautiful building!
