Cool museum with lots to see. Informative but not as in depth as it could have been. If you have basic knowledge of WWII you may not learn too much on your visit. The Russian involvement seems to be an afterthought and nowhere near enough about George Patton.
This is a great experience that shouldn't be missed. Plus, as a unexpected surprise, the Gumbo in the Canteen was the best I had in New Orleans!
I was very impressed with this museum. It was built entirely using contributions with no governmental support according to one of the volunteers. If you go, please be sure to see the short 45 minute film called Beyond all Boundaries. It was an amazing experience done in 4D.The museum had lots of artifacts, many short videos, personal recordings by those who served in the war. All in all, it was an experience that should not be missed.
An extraordinary and interactive experience!! Easy to access from the Streetcar. Enjoyed our time very much.
This was my second visit and I will return again. Many new exhibits, new buildings full of history about Americas Greatest Generation. Well done, well staffed, and a must see for all ages.
This is a wonderful museum. Every American (especially the young) needs the reminder of the sacrifices of our past and understanding of why the American work ethic is so very important. We spent 3 hours in the first building and will have to go back to see the buildings across the street and the movie on our next visit to NOLA. If you only have one day, I suggest you startt early and break up the walking with the movie and lunch in the middle of the day.
We had read a lot of reviews before deciding to invest the $50.00 and a whole day of our time... In the end we didn't really feel like the museum lived up to our expectations. We did the main building first and I found it very interesting and informative. My husband is a non-native English speaker and didn't like having to read so much information. We had lunch in the restaurant which was quite good.We then went to the movie which was so highly recommended on here. It was very good. I just wish it had given more NEW information or even better been story oriented... Afterward I wondered why I had spent two hours reading what the movie told me in a much more dramatic fashion. We were pretty tired by then, but went into the other building. We basically just walked straight through it. It was extremely crowded and it was impossible to enjoy any of the exhibits. Sometimes people would just stop walking and leave the hallways so congested that we were stuck looking at blank walls. When we left we had some good conversations based on the new information we had learned. I felt that I had gained a fine overview of the meta-narrative of the war from the American perspective. One problem i had with the content was that I felt they were trying to somewhat subtly justify the use of the atomic bombs. It is a complicated issue, but I just wish multiple perspectives were shown.I also feel the museum should be great for kids, but used a pretty complicated vernacular so a lot of additional discussion and explanation would be needed.Save yourself the time and money; rent a WWII documentary and watch it when you aren't on vacation.
Loved the personal accounts and the imax movie! Lunch pricey but convenient. Nice collection well showcased!
Brings tears to your eyes when seeing the sacrifices made for our freedom.Thank you Veterans one and all.
Very moving. Made me proud of America and what the people stood for then. Lots to see! The exhibits were very well displayed. Wish we had more time to visit the rest. I will return again to see more.
