Previous review was right on the money. She was correct, no one is ever in the office, the gate is locked from 9-5, and most disappointingly, the lady there, Dawn is RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. My friend and I camped there and trusted her. We paid her and did not think that we had to have a receipt...wrong! She later came and said that we didnt pay her, WE DID. Also other campers visited each other to say Hello....the ones that had been there before....boy did they tell us some terrible experiences about the lady. Many said that they had been coming there for years but since Dawn has been there....they are considering not coming back. Someone needs to investigate this park. It is giving Atmore a bad name. They have an "honor box" but dont use it...you need to get a receipt for everything!!! Its too bad because the park needs some work but it is a nice place, it is just managed horribly. Choose another park!!!

My husband and I made a reservation to stay two nights, and my parents made a reservation to stay the second night with us. I told whoever I was emailing (never answered the phone, never gave a name) that we would see them that evening. The website and whoever I was emailing both failed to mention that you are locked in/out after a certain time. We drove almost 3 hours to the campground just to find that there was a locked gate blocking the entry/exit. The only number we could find was not answered when called. We had to turn around and drive another 3 hours home. Not only should this information be posted, but when a reservation is made, this information should be made very clear. The phone recording says they are open 9-5, but not that the entire grounds are blocked off. We are avid campers and have never experienced this before. Whoever (once again, I have yet to receive a name) took our reservation rudely contacted me to tell me they thought we came, got our site, and then left because of an emergency. I have absolutely no idea how they decided on that excuse, as we were never able to get in and get our site at all, nor were we able to get in touch with anyone about it. Instead of apologizing, they are making excuses.I was looking forward to a nice weekend with my family, but instead we spent 6 hours driving to nothing. We will not return.

My family and I stayed a few nights in the trailers they have at the park. For fema trailers, they were pretty nice. The only issue th at we had is that while taking showers the water would go up over the edge of the shower floor and flood the bathroom! Thank god we brought lots of towels! We were told the reason it happens is because they are handicapped accessible and the trailers are starting to become unlevel. The receptionist said they need repairs. But other than the shower mishap the park itself was really nice. They have grills and firepits, a playground for kids, rowboats and pedal boats and restrooms. A snack machine is located inside the restroom building. *A helpful tip*, if you're staying in the trailers they don't supply any toiletries or linens and the don't have a tv, you have to bring everything you need from home, but there is a full size fridge and microwave and a stove.

We did not stay here, but explored it on a recent trip. The facility has a camp ground on a beautiful lake with mobile homes for rent at a very reasonable rate. The park was very scenic and the grounds were very clean. It would be an excellent place to get off the beaten path and away from it all.

I'm interested in contact information in reference to utilizing facility for family reunion in the near future in that I was there in July 1996 and really enjoyed the privacy, convenience and inexpensive cost to utilize facility. Based on recent reviews of others, is this facility still available to be utilized for such an event. Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

Not too far off the highway, convient but secluded, quiet and peaceful. Just a real good get away from it all.

The rentals are gone and won't allow horses. A couple of years ago we had a trail ride for St. Judes and had a great time but were not allowed back because of some disagreement with the management. If you want campers then you must accomodate them.

Out of the way, not many visitors. Camp ground was clean and quiet.

absolutely beautiful in november we camped in one of the r v sites full hook ups including sewer so no tanks to empty. the deer where every where also small animals like raccoons. birds of all types including hawks and eagles. the staff was very nice the camp ground had just a few campers and everyone was very considerate. this was the time of year when the creek indians have there pow wow so we visited it one of the days and the costumes where absolutely beautiful and a educational experience. our dogs where welcome and the pet rules are just the same as anyother pet friendly camp ground. little river lake is absolutely beautiful with boat rentals which have very reasonable rates. i did not got fishing but there is a sign listing the types of fish that can be caught with the fishing rules.i was very please with the scenic views that changed with the hours of the day noone made noise that would disturb fellow campers. some scars on the forrest just outside the parks bounderies from logging but with the rollings trails and a land scape of rollings hills you have to walk a fair distance to see it. we actually had to stop on the road to the camp site coming from the office for a few minutes to let a small herd of deer crosing the road no complaits from me abouth that.little river state park is beautiful and natural alabama forrest with the lake being man made from years ago clay mining (i think) but the water is clear and it does have a small water fall that adds to the view and plenty of facillities for famliy and group pinics. the park is kept clean and trash is picked up daily so no dumpsters to draw flys and other unwanted guess to the camping areas.i think my favorite memory was waking up on a cool november morning to walk the dogs and there was a light fog hanging close to the ground but not so thick you cloud not see thru it and the sun was shinning across the lake that was slick as glass and the deer where grazing on the edge of the forrest. it was one of the most beautiful sites i have seen in a long time. we will remember little river state park and will return again in late winter or early spring.

Little River State Forest is a great getaway for the family. Camping, swimming, playground for the kids, hiking trails, it has it all. The rv campsites and bath houses need improving and from what I hear will be if the recreation area stays open which will make the park perfect. I saw a review saying that the view on the Bell Trail is a clay pit. Don't believe it. Turn around 180-degrees and you'll see the view.

I went camping this past weekend with my wife and son. I took the kayak and fishing gear, and we stayed in a primitive camping area with a picnic table, grill and a safe area for a fire. The people there were very nice. I went for the kayaking and fishing; my son went for everything under the sun; and I think my wife went to socialize. Everyone we met was very friendly. The lake was very pretty (you can rent boats there too), but don't expect to catch a lot of fish. It seems over-fished to me, and there are plenty of weeds to keep you busy. Still, it's a great place to paddle around and just soak in the peacefulness the lake offers. But there were times when it wasn't exactly a peaceful experience. I guess someone was having a party at one of the cabins because it was very loud on that side, and I was glad we decided to camp on the opposite side of the campgrounds from them. I did see quite a bit of wildlife while there. We saw ducks, hawks, bats, and I even got a very close look at a large opossum as he was sneaking back into the woods at night! (I think he was looking around campsites for a free meal.)The overall condition of the park was fair. It really could use some maintenance, litter pickup and improvements. But, at the same time, those little things I noticed that could use a little attention weren't deal breakers for me.I think my biggest fault in all this was we simply didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted to do. My son wanted to go hiking, and we walked around some, but we didn't have enough time to find a trail. Next time I plan to find one of those to see if they're worth exploring. So, here's my basic summary:Camping: Yes on the primitive sites.Fishing: Not so much.Hiking: No clue.Paddling: A big yes.Wildlife: Yes.I'd recommend this park to a friend if they're looking to get away for a weekend, and especially if they like to kayak or canoe on peaceful waters.Oh, and I don't hold the park responsible for the party someone was having at their cabin. We picked a weekend when the weather was pleasant, so I knew going in that we were going to be surrounded by tons of camping folks. And they were far enough away that they didn't cause any issues for us when it got late enough for sleeping. I would've been annoyed if I would've camped on the same side with them though.I'm giving this park a 3 though because I think they can do a little better with maintaining the park. And there are little educational things I've seen at other parks that weren't present at this park. Simply putting up small, wooden signs so folks (and especially children) can learn the different types of trees and plants can be a big attraction for many people. And it would be really nice if the lake were stocked with fish. Even if you could only catch and release certain times of day/month/year, it would be worth it to know that at least you could catch a few fish when you spent more than a couple hours fishing there. Little things like that go a long way, and while the lack of these things don't (and won't) keep me away from parks like this, those parks that have all those little things taken care of are higher on my list of parks to visit.

We stayed in the cabin Aug.9,10,2009. My husband and I and three girls. It was great we rented the rustic cabin,it was clean. Even the teenage girls loved it.The lake was beautiful got bites fishing but only caught 1 fish.Rented a john boat and a peddle boat for the lake. You can fish off dock by launch also.Swimming area is clean ,water clear, shallow, seemed as though there were fresh springs coming up.Very Refreshing.Camp staff very friendly. The scenery was beautiful, and park not over populated with people or things.Rv and campsites cheap.Already planned next trip, can"t wait.

The lake is absolutely beautiful! I could fish this lake all day. There is a playground, numerous shaded picnic tables, bath house (it's clean), boat launch, full campground with a cabin, and pavilions. The lady in the office is great - she was both helpful and nice. This park would be great for a family wanting to picnic, swim, and fish. Now having said that... I went to Little River State Park for the hiking trails - CCC/Bell Trail and Gazebo Trail - I was VERY disappointed! I purchased A Falcon Guides book – Hiking Alabama – the book gave a wonderful description so I just had to go to these trails! (I guess the author isn’t a hiker) The trails are nothing more than old logging roads. The forest that surrounds the lake is being harvested! I am originally from Tennessee and the land at this park reminded me of how Westvaco mines the land. There are very few hard woods left and no hurricane did this type of damage.Overall, the man-made lake is beautiful and worth the trip but don’t bother going for the hiking…(Things have changed since the 2006 review)
