Great place to take the whole family, especially the kiddos they will love it. Very nice display of old aircraft and I believe that it is free can't remember if it cost anything it's not much if it does.
Spent a great afternoon with the kids at the Aviation Museum. Just enough information and history to learn, but still things for the kids to crawl in and click on to have fun. Great little museum if you're in the area.
Ft. Rucker is the home of Army Aviation and a visit to the museum takes you back in time. Lots of helicopters and planes of the past. A wonderful history trip for young and old. A definite "must see"!!
Wonderful display of planes & helicopters, nice small gift shop. Free admission. Video displays were very informative.
I come from a Boeing family so I've been to multiple flight museums. I really enjoy meandering around this museum with family and friends looking at the various aircrafts and other flight related items. I really like the displays they have with mannequins depicting a realistic setting of how the aircraft would have been used. The one thing that I feel other flight museums have lacked are plaques detailing the aircraft and its flight history. It's really annoying when you have a big beautiful aircraft in front of you and have no idea what it is. This museum is able to paint a vivid picture of each piece it features.
My husband was stationed at Fort Rucker during Vietnam War so this was a must stop on our trip. The museum has tons of helicopters and planes. They plan to expand in the future so probably will go back one day.
We stopped here on the way to Nashville and it was well worth the stop. This was a great display of the history of Army Aviation going back before the creation of the Air Force. The majority of the aircraft displays are helicopters including the first Presidential helicopter. Anyone with an interest in American history from a military perspective would enjoy this museum. The museum is located on the Ft Rucker military base and you must show identification at the gate to get on the base. There is no cost to tour the museum but a donation box is available. One of the volunteers the day we were there had served in Army Aviation which made it even more interesting.
Tells the magnificent story movingly and well with great exhibits of actual aircraft that had been in action.
Great place to go back in time and see military aviation from infancy to now. Outside exhibits are interesting also.
If you like military history its a great museum to visit. Nice displays of helicopters and lots of information about army aviation history and heroes. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Up close and personal with some of the finest, historical examples of Army Aircraft and Aviation related items that exist anywhere in the world! EACH aircraft has a "story" to tell, and you can feel the Pilot's spirits in the memorial room! You won't leave as you came, guaranteed!
You get to go into the belly of one of the troop carriers, and sit in the seats our military guys used. Kids loved this. This is a working base where training is constantly going on. Gift shop had very interesting memorabilia.
Very cool and educational place to occupy the family's attention on something besides personal electronics for a couple of hours. There are a couple of hands-on things to do in this clean and well-designed museum, but it could benefit greatly with some modern, interactive activities e.g. a flight simulator. Go for it!
Our family of 7 spent almost 3 hrs in the museum. The kids (9 and 13) were in awe of all the planes and helicopters. The facility is huge. So much military history in one place. Two floors of things to look at, read, watch on video, etc. The kids liked getting into the cargo plane and hooking themselves into the seat belts. The ac was on and it was nice and cool. The kids enjoyed going onto a real army base and seeing the soldiers running around. The museum is on the Army base so every adult in your party must have photo id which they scan at the gate before you can go on base. The gift shop is kind of pricey so we only bought a couple of trinkets for the kids. They didn't seem to mind.
My husband's Warrant Officer Graduation was held here! It was an awesome setting! I loved being able to walk around after the graduation and look at all the history in this place! I only wish I could have had my kiddos with me! They would have loved it also!
