We visited Highliner Lodge the 2nd week in August. Steve and Jill Daniels are the owners and strive to make your fishing vacation an experience you will not forget. Excellent lodging and service, outstanding food prepared daily by a talented chef, and great captains who will put you on the fish. We did the 5 nights and 4 days of all inclusive fishing package. They include rain gear and boots. Includes everything but alcoholic beverages, licenses, and souvenirs. You can sport fish for halibut, salmon, and rock fish or opt to spend a day with Steve on the "Pelican" and experience what it is like to commercially troll for salmon (highly recommended). At this lodge you also have the option to designate a caught Halibut as a Guided Angler Fish (GAF) and purchase it at the current GAF rate in addition to the bag limit. This is explained in detail on their website. Our trip was an extremely productive fishing trip yielding one fish over 100 Lbs. and another over 200 Lbs. We brought home nearly 400 Lbs. of boxed fish filets of Halibut, Salmon (Kings & Coho's), and Rockfish for our freezer. Of course not everyone catches a large halibut over 100 Lbs. but if you want the best chance of landing that trophy fish, this is the place to go.

Fabulous fishing, guides, boats and equipment. Great accommodations. Good food. Entertaining and accommodating owners and staff. My business partner and I just retuned from four days of Alaskan fishing for salmon and halibut. We brought home 250 pounds of fish and we are rookie fisherman. This was only our second Alaskan fishing trip. For my business partner, this was only his second time fishing ever. I have fished twice that many times.By the fourth day of fishing with Highliner we limited out (one King salmon, six Silver salmon and two halibut each) thanks to Zach our guide, who was fabulous. On another day, I can’t tell you how many halibut we caught and released trying for a really big one. We finished the day with two each in the 40 – 50 pound category. We released a 75 pounder caught early one day.Why would we release a 75 pounder? Well, you can only keep two and some other fellows at the Highliner that were fishing from another boat brought back a 200 pounder three of the four days. Yes, they were more experienced then us but experience isn’t everything when fishing. Knowing where to fish is more important.I could write a book to describe how great the Highliner is, its advantages over other Alaskan fishing lodges and how much fun we had. Bottom line, if you are a serious fisherman, the experienced fisherman that were at the lodge choose Highliner because they wanted the best chance of catching really big halibut. They had done their research and decided Highliner would give them the best chance. They were not disappointed. As we were leaving they were talking about coming back next year in search of a 300 pounder. Bottom line, if you are inexperienced (like us) and want to catch a bunch of fish, be well taken care of and have a great time, this is the place.
