Although they are contracted to brew Pioneer Beer, it is now the Rapscallion Barrel & Tap Room with brewery tours every Saturday at 2pm. The tour is run by the brewmaster and is very informal. As one of our party was running late and our group were the only ones in the tour, he delayed the start time for us. All aspects of the operation were explained and all questions were answered in depth. Probably about a dozen different beers on tap with the alcohol contents and characteristics posted for purchase before and after the tour. Also they will give a small sample of the different beers if you are unsure if it is to your liking or not. Very informal and friendly atmosphere. Very popular local watering hole.

Pioneer is a very good microbrewery. Outstanding craft beers served in a fun and inviting atmosphere. Disappointing that the outside taps do not have Pioneer beers flowing. It's nearly a travesty that a craft brewery as good as Pioneer had Pabst on tap outside. This was negated by having Harpoon which is an amazing Boston beer. Pioneer's IPAs and ales are worth the trip alone. Great balance of hops and ABV.

Freshness in beer is a distinguishing feature and at Pioneer Brewing in Sturbridge, it doesn't get much fresher.Attentive and knowledgeable staff help you narrow down your choices to your personal liking.Live music on some weekends is an extra bonus.
