I’ve had a couple years of indoor climbing experience, but this was my first time ice climbing. After seeing a listing on Groupon I booked the trip online with Jamie who was more than happy answering any questions I had. On the day of the climb there were three couples and two guides. We spent most of our time with Sean who walked us through the basics and answered our questions. He was enthusiastic and knowledgable, overall a fun guy to be around. The guide to student ratio worked out perfectly, after a climb/belay session we could relax as others had their go at it, and repeat accordingly. Although the course is for beginners (and not to say it's a walk in the park), there are definitely opportunites to challenge yourself. We had two routes we could choose from, one being more difficult than the other, as well as the choice of climbing with one or two axes. Overall I had a great time. I would repeat ice climbing in a heartbeat and I’m looking forward to setting up some warmer weather activities with NRMG as well.
We got the living social deal for the Waterfall Repelling. Jamie was awesome the entire process. We had a lot of questions and he was very accomodating. He even suggested the place we stayed, The Bartlett Inn. Jamie and Travis were our guides for the Waterfall Repelling and they were so great. They took their time with us, and were very knowledgeable . Made me feel safe as I was about to go down the waterfall. Can't wait to do it again!
Had a great time today doing the waterfall rappel! The day started with a great hike of about a mile and ended at cloudland falls. The guides were very knowledgeable and immediately put me at ease. I have never rappelled anything and they gave step by step guidance. I slipped once but they were able to help me recover quickly. It was a very low key and calm day with down time between rappels. They gave us opportunities to try different heights and go multiple times. Definitely worth the money!
I did a mount Washington winter climb with NRMG in Feb 2013. Jamie was our guide. He is a true professional and an expert at what he does. It was always fun with Jamie around. Not only it was a lot of fun but I also learned a lot of mountaineering tips from Jamie that will be valuable for the rest of my life. While keeping us entertained with his stories he always made sure everyone was safe and we are following safety protocols. He kept an eye on everybody and made the correct decisions to keep everything fun and safe. My friends and I are already making plans for a few more trips with NRMG in the upcoming months.
