There is both the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and a huge statue commemorating 9/11. Identification is required.

Moving, powerful tribute to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. It is your responsibility to tribute, read reports, learn from mistakes, and train your crew.

If you are in the fire service or have a family member who is, you should make a trip to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial. It is a very somber, yet special place to reflect on those firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. I have been to the Fire Academy several times, but made sure to bring my wife and kids to see the Memorial on our way through Emmitsburg while on vacation. The NFA is very secure, almost like trying to get into a military installation, but it is well worth it.

I went here with my father who is a firefighter. This monument meant a lot more to him then me, especially since one of his close friends name had been place upon it the previous year. It's a nice monument and the 9/11 monument that was near it was nice to see too. The campus is pretty to look at but your not allowed to enter the buildings since they are federal buildings. Also, be prepared to have an ID on you. The guards take them upon entering the campus and give you a visitors pass and then return them as you leave.

When the National Fire Academy took over the former St. Joseph's College Campus I never expected they would create a new sacred space on the old. But that has happened, for not only do Firefighters come from all over the US to train here, but they also honor the fallen firefighters so that we will never forget their sacrifice. I am impressed that the land the Daughters of Charity occupied and made holy for years is now consecrated again, by the tribute to our fallen firefighters.

We stopped here after seeing a sign on the highway after leaving Gettysburg. It was getting dark when we got there so we didn't have much time. The campus is beautiful and so are the memorials. The Fallen Firefighters Memorial was very touching. We found the names of a couple of firefighters from our area. It is amazing to see the names of so many firefighters who have died in the line of duty. There is also a memorial to those who died on 9/11. It is a beautiful memorial! I've never seen such huge statues. So glad we came!

Visited on Aug.31 2014. Very nice, it covers all the States by years. Easy to find a Family member or Friend. Worth seeing

At NFA for class with Indiana. All of the memorials on the ground are beautiful. The entire campus is nice. Several of the bricks on sidewalks are donated by firefights and their families. Joe

Went here with my son and it was a lovely well laid out monument. It was not completely focused on anyone state or event but effectively paid homage to the noble profession of fire fighters and those who gave their lives in action. If you are driving up 15 stop by enjoy the grounds and pay your respects.

We were able to visit the memorial while attending a class at the National Fire Academy. It is a small area set aside to honor firefighters killed in the line of duty. A very moving tribute and well worth the visit. A nearby area has also been set up to honor the firefighters who perished on 09/11/01 so be sure to see that as well.

The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial is worth a quick trip to Emmitsburg, MD which is only 10 miles or so from Gettysburg. Because this is on government property, one must provide ID to security upon entering the grounds of the facility (which is the National Firefighters Training Academy and the Emergency Management Institute). The memorial has parking close by and commemorates fallen firefighters nationwide. Nearby is a newer memorial to the tragic events of 9/11. The government facility is located next to the shrine for American saint, Elizabeth Anne Seton. While we did not stop there, we understand that admission to the shrine and lovely grounds is free.

The memorial is on the National Emergency Training Center campus, which also houses the Emergency Management Institute and United States Fire Administration. The campus in and of itself is beautiful.....it was the former St Jospeh's College (which closed and merged with Mount Saint Mary's nearby). I am not certain how many of the buildings are accessible to the public, but there is a gift shop on campus and I think the chapel is accessible. On the campus, is the memorial for those brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice. There is also an awesome sculpture, recognizing the lives lost in 9/11. Both are equally awesome and worthy of viewing.

Both of my grandsons have fathers who are firefighters so this was a must stop and pay our respects to the fallen. The last time I was here was 17 years ago prior to 9/11 and the loss of so many fine fireman and police officers.They have a memorial to all the fallen firefighters in America and is a simple but moving tribute to their sacrifices. This is a must see sight and is not well known as we were the only visitors when we were there.

The NFFM is co-located at the United States Fire Administration's (USFA) National Emergency Training Center (NETC). The NFFM is a respectfully designed and maintained. It consists of an outdoor monument as well as a Civil War-era chapel. The NETC houses the National Fire Academy and the Emergency Managment Institute. Both facilities train emergency responders. This facility houses students for one- and two-week courses so there are often people from all over the USA and sometimes foreign countries.There is a kiosk in the foyer of the chapel to make donations as well as purchase gifts. There used to be an on-site gift shop but this was closed and replaced with the kiosk.It is a Federally-maintained facility so security is a consideration.

The flame and the names are enough in itself to make this a fitting memorial to those firefighters who have given their lives in the line of service. It never fails to humble me each time I go to the National Emergency Training class at Emmitsburg.
