I just love this place. They have trap, skeet, wobble, 5-stand and sporting clays in a beautiful park-like setting. You can rent guns, semi auto and over under, 12 gauge and 20 gauge. Newbies are welcome and most shooters are happy to help. In the summer, they offer a free Learn to Shoot program for kids, which walks thru gun safety, all the different games and field etiquette -- its all FREE from a professional instructor!! They offer private lessons, too. We took a class as a family 3 1/2 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. It's a bit pricey - $10 gun rental (all day), ~$8 for a box of shells and $6 for a ticket (which pays for one round of trap, skeet or wobble). So, your first round will cost about ~$24, but then it's about ~$14 for every round thereafter. If you are in a group, it's cheaper to buy in bulk: you save $1 per ticket when you buy a book of 10 and $1 per box when you buy a case (10 boxes). If you plan to return, buy in bulk and save what you don't use for a future trip. They also sell everything you could ever want - shotguns, vests, glasses, ear plugs, hats, pouches, gun cases...plus coffee and hot dogs. Overall, a day at PG Trap & Skeet ain't cheap but it's sooooo worth it!!For the ladies, this is one of the few sports where women are physically equal to men. No strength involved. I just have one important tip: be prepared to suffer from occasional patronizing from some of the older guys. There are not many women out here (I'm usually the only one most of the time), so when they see us they don't always know how to act!! LOL Ok -- I'm kinda kidding and a wee bit serious. It's harmless and they mean well. I've learned to take it all in, listen for the stuff that sounds helpful and just smile and ignore the rest.If you want to make a day of it, they have a picnic area with a barbecue. So pack a lunch and hang out. The facility is beautiful, with almost a mile of "trails" for sporting clays. You can walk the course and watch, or pick & choose which station you want to try. Or, walk up and down the trap and skeet fields, watching other shooters and seeing if you can pick up some tips and techniques. In the winter, there is usually a fire burning in the club house, so you can shoot a few rounds, go inside to warm up then go back out and do it again!!! All in all, it's a lot of fun!!
Been shooting mostly skeet and some sporting clays w/ my boyfriend for a few years now at this facility. We have frequented this range on weekday late afternoons, and there is usually no wait for an open station. We have shot with some friends as well as some strangers who we sometimes invite to join us. Good way to learn from others and compare techniques. Prices are very reasonable and this facility is one of the best in the area with lighting outdoors when it gets dark early in the winter. If you choose to try sporting clays, it is challenging and fun, I would recommend renting a golf cart to travel the twenty plus stations unless you enjoy walking a good bit. Bring your own ammo, it is rather expensive if you buy it at the house. I have only seen a few other experienced women while at the range, most women are beginners just learning the sport. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They do sell lead, powder, and some other reloading supplies, some ice cream bars for snacks, as well as some Beretta clothing and apparel. They have clean bathroom facilities in the main house.
This is the place to go for skeet, trap and sporting clays. The facilities are automated so you don't need a trapper. You can shoot just your favorite stations or pick a couple to work on problems. The sporting clay course is well laid out and shaded. I have been there on hot summer days and cool windy fall days. The tree cover blocks the sun and wind. The course is changed frequently enough that it is never the same.Facility staff are helpful. A little bit of instruction from the instructors can improve your game greatly. The facility is completely wheel chair accessible. Drinks and snacks are available in vending machines.
i organized my best friend's bachelor party here this past weekend for a group of 7 of us. The lead instructor there Rhys Arthur is a great gentleman to deal with and the set up was great. most of us have never shot before so the instructions was not overburdened on the fun. The price was reasonable ~$75/pp and we had 2 private instructors with us for 2+ hrs. We played multiple games and elimination matches. I'd highly recommend any group outings for this place (~30 mins from Metro DC).
