We visited the place but it is nothing special. You can see the turtles and feed them but there is nothing more. 15 minutes is enough for the place .We were given a guide who seemed to be bored with his job. He told us almost nothing – of course he answered all our question but we had the impression that he wanted to make the visit as short as possible. There are some boards where you can find interesting information about the mysterious death of hundreds of dolphins in 2006.

I think this is quite a waste of time and money, and least when I visited. You could use your time more wisely, until the project is lifted to the next level. There are no explanations of any interest and I came away learning nothing....

The turtle sanctuary is a must visit, as it is not only very informative, but also supports the local community in the conservation of local wildlife. While they keep crocodiles for educational purposes, I don't think that the 'habitat' that these reptiles are confined to are appropriate or sufficient. Our guide Omari was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

I had great guide that was able to share his extended knowledge about sea turtles. He was very informative, patient and kind. I enjoyed feeding the turtles and hearing about the program. It is great that they return the turtles to the ocean about once a year and that the whole community helps in saving these amazing creatures. Very enjoyable.

We walked really far from the hotel hoping to see something really special but what we found was a dirty sandy area with a few turtles swimming around in dark water. They probably try their best with the facilities that they have because this place is really poor and I salute these guys for trying their best to conserve the turtles, but dont expect too much

I stumbled across this when going for a walk along the beach. It is a great way to spend 30 mins on a lazy day. Entry is very cheap. Around $5 AUD from memory and the money goes to looking after the turtles! The tour is very relaxed and the guide is very informative. I think young children would really enjoy!

A natural sea water pool, you can get in the water and swim with the turtles, feed them, touch them (actually they touch you) be so close you can even smell their breath. Wonderful and unforgettable.

Mnarani is the only turtle conservation center that we take our baby turtles to, the babies that are not healthy enough for release. They are experts at hand rearing the baby turtles, thorough about recording their growth and monitoring their welfare. Many of the current babies there are from our program and we cannot praise them highly enough. Solomon is a wonderful guy and knows his stuff, we are excited for the big release in February!

This little gem is a must visit for anyone who cares about nature and the future. A community based project that rehabilitates turtles caught in nets as well as protecting eggs and then rearing little turtles. The turtles are then released back into the sea, once a year. Not high tech, you can't swim with them but you can meet local people who are passionate about saving turtles.

We took a walk to the sanctuary. This was really great. We fed the turtles and the guides gave us wonderful information about the breeding habits and care of these turtles.

Nice guide about the turtles, nice experience. We could even help to wash the turtles and we could feed them with assistance of the volounters.

We walked up the beach to see the turtles. There are two places to view. The one is part of the Bungalows and a short walk from beach. Here you can swim with the turtles. We however chose the conservation one on the beach. Great informative tour. Our guide gave us plenty of information and we saw greenbacks and two other species. You cant swim with the turtles here, but you can feed them. I prefer this option, it's not as invasive and reduces animal stress.Range of ages and turtle sizes... there is an initiative in collecting new hatchlings and getting them to a bigger size before release. Fisherman are remunerated a small fee for bringing in catch turtles... it could incentive capture but on the otherhand a struggling fisherman could easily kill a turtle for food and it's shell. Luckily they're now protected in Zanzibar. Definitely worth a short trip particularly if you are in Nungwi already.

This trip, to the Turtle pond, included a visit to the local fish market and the boat building yard. We, unfortunately, didn't have swimming costumes so were unable to swim with the turtles but it was still enjoyable - feeding these lovely creatures along with the fish that cohabit the pond was a real treat.I was, however, left a little disappointed by the two snakes they have on display which were covered in ticks and lived in a filthy cage. These animals are in need of veterinarian assistance and something should be done to help these poor creatures. The fish market, although vibrant, didn't go down too well with the females accompanying us as the stench is almost overwhelming but it was interesting seeing the auction of each individual catch being auctioned off.To watch the boat builders at work was a special moment, using only manually operated tools which included and drill I had never clapped eyes on before. I was even given instruction on how to use it ...but I guess it takes years of practice as I never quite mastered it.Well worth the trip out to the northern part of the island.
