The Agusan River is the only passage inter-connecting the AGUSAN REGION, hence, this river is profound perfectly clean since it provides a good habitation both for the "Agusanons" and its animal recreations or shall we say livelihood extinction. This river is one of the Philippines' Longest river and it marks a great contribution to all the Agusanons and the entire Agusan Peninsula.
I went to this small southern Philippine city 4 days after the great flood caused by Typhoon Agaton.Despite the images on TV of a great calamity, it appeared to me that the flood was limited to the Agusan River and its immediate surroundings. Much of Butuan City was spared from the havoc caused by the swelling of the mighty Agusan River (one of the country's largest and longest rivers which is fed by the super Agusan marsh). The city was in its usual self during my visit - lazy, peaceful, and without excitement. It took me half an hour to find a pack of cigarrette . My hotel, Pietros Square was exceedingly far from the town proper. The massage i had was mediocre . The market was chaotic and the bus terminal was not well maintained (dirty).
this river was used in transporting logs in the early days. The river connects davao, cotabato and agusan basin. This is also use as the fastest way of transportation going to the municipality of magallanes and nearby barangays. The best time to enjoy boat rides is during summer, march-june.
The second largest river that flows out to the Magallanes delta passing the city of Butuan. In the city it gets the biggest volume of water from the many sources This is sourced out from different tributaries from the mountains and marshes of the Agusan provinces and even from the central area of Mindanao particularly from the highlands of Compostela Valley province. It is true that Agusan river does not look clear and clean because if it rained in those places in Agusan Sur or from COMVAL province, the water in the river to Butuan City is always a flood water. I have been long time passing this river and to Butuan city since i worked in Davao. Butuan City is where the sea port to the Visayas is situated until the river opening became shallower then the sea port was moved to Nasipit a much safer harbor. The river gives varied help to the people but when it rained hard or when storm comes hitting over Mindanao the rivers swells and caused flooding to the area mostly to the much lower portions destroying many shanties constructed along the river.
well that how they float the logs to the city. it not very clean mud color most of the time
it was a pleasant way of discovering the surrounding ; on a private trip boat from the marina at sunset or with the public transport down to the other side. one of the few attraction of the city
