We took a day trip to Culebra on the second day of our vacation and visited Flamenco Beach which is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. So the bar was set extremely high by the time we went to Playa Sucia. Playa Sucia was one of the highlights of the vacation for me, being a photographer, the entire area was full of photo opportunities. We spent a peaceful and relaxing day hiking to the lighthouse and the bluff on the opposite side of channel from the lighthouse and actually hated leaving at the end of the day. There aren't any facilities on this beach but the scenic beauty makes it difficult to describe in words. The water conditions were excellent and aside from the seaweed that washes on the beach, there is nothing negative I can say about this attraction. In fact, I consider it a must see when traveling around Puerto Rico.
While staying in Rincon, my family decided to go on a day trip to Cabo Rojo and spend the day at this beach. I would call getting to this beach "an adventure" but Google maps got us there easily. The water is the most blue I have seen in PR and the Lighthouse and rock formations are beautiful. It was a fun day spent at a beautiful beach but definitely not the most relaxing, easy day at the beach! It was worth the trip, glad we experienced it, don't know that I'd go back.
Gorgeous beach with shallow blue waters and white sand. The beach forms a bay shape into the land, thus has mild waves and swimmable. Getting there: If you are in San Juan area, this is going to a long drive of about 3 hours. This beach is almost at the South West tip of the PR main island. However only about 1.5 hour drive from Ponce. However the drive is very scenic in some streches. The last stretch leading up to the beach is a muddy and bumpy drive. However worth it all when you get to the beach. There is also a light house nearby which gives a view of the beach from a slight altitude.
If you like adventure and family fun; this is the place. The view from the lighthouse it's stunning and awesome. The beach it's so pretty and clear.
I like that you can take a nice hike either up to the lighthouse or over to the rocky arch and see lots of wild life in between dips in the nice warm ocean!
Indeed this is a beautiful beach with CALM water and few people when we were there. I just missed the palm trees!
One of my favorite Beaches in Puerto Rico!!!! The area is great for picture taking!!!! We went on a Wednesday and there were few people there. Definitely worth stopping by if you are on the west coast of the island.
Beautiful beach at the foot of the Lighthouse. You will find chicken and cats around the parking lot. Note that the parking opening hours are 9-5.
If you are in the South/West side of the island, please do yourself a favor and go to Bahia Sucia. They beach is wonderful, and the views from the Lighthouse are extraordinary. We went during the week and it was not that packed. Had a lot of algae on the sand that washed off from the ocean, but we went during a week that rained a lot so we figured it must have been because of that. Nonetheless, it was beautiful, and you should definitely come down to see this beach. Make sure you bring everything you need with you (Including bug repellent). A cooler (Foam one you can get at Walgreens in Cabo Rojo) with some water and other necessities, towels, sunscreen, and maybe some beach chairs. There a lot of places to set up under some trees to get shade, but we didn't use any of the shades since we wanted to get tanned. I recommend this beach 100%!
One of the two best beaches for my family (including two adult children) during our week long trip to Puerto Rico. It's out of the way and not very crowded as a result. During our visit in February, I never saw more than 30 people on this beach. Its isolation means that you'll need to make your own parking space, bring your own stuff and walk about 1/8 mile to the beach itself. The beach is itself is absolutely beautiful. The sand is clean and the water is pristine. Because it's the Gulf Stream, walking into the ocean is like sitting down in your bathtub. The tree line comes up to 20 feet of the surf. That means you can easily sit in the shade and hang your towels and bags on the branches. All you can lay on under the full sun. If I had gone by myself, I would have come to this beach everyday.
Playa Sucia is one of those "secret" beaches that is a bit off the beaten path but a truly beautiful beach. Be prepared to search for parking spaces and to walk along the sandy road to the beach. It does get a bit crowded on the weekends so the next time we go we'll plan a mid-week visit. Be aware that whatever you want to eat or drink must be taken in with you. There are no public facilities on the beach & no food vendors aside from an ice cream cart. The water is calm & beautiful shades of blue & green & the beach is clean. Local vegetation does provide for some nice spots to throw down your towel & get some shade. Explore the cliffs & the nearby lighthouse where you get stunning views of the ocean. Be careful, however, as there are no guard rails or barricades so you definitely want to make sure you don't let your young children run loose on the cliffs or get too close to the edges yourself.
