I prefer smaller galleries and this one was perfect. The building itself is steeped in history but the exhibit spaces have been created as perfectly neutral backdrops to show exhibits to their full potential. The staff were all very friendly and I imagine that if I lived nearby I'd be a frequent visitor. The gallery also benefits from having a VERY nice tearoom, The Golden Teapot and is also near some excellent trails. I can't wait to return.
This historic home is a treasure in itself to explore donated by Mr. Edmund Cockshutt, overlooking the grand river. This gorgeous building houses 4 gallery exhibition spaces for viewing on two floors. There is elevator access if required. While there be sure to visit the art rental in the basement of the gallery or book ahead and have high tea served at the Golden Teapot located in the atrium off off gallery one. Highly sought after exhibits can be experienced in this peaceful retreat. Gallery Four in the upper level has been designated for local artists to display. There are ongoing art classes that one can register for and other venues to inspire your artistic senses. There are even two small exterior buildings that can be rented for smaller venues such as meetings, art demonstrations or showers. Glenhryst is truly a wonderful hidden gem in the city of Brantford.
My friend & I stopped off at this Art Gallery on the way to visit some other attractions in and around the city of Brantford. I am very happy we stopped here. The grounds of this Gallery are also the home of Glenhyrst Gardens. We walked amongst the beautiful tall trees and admired the view of the Grand River Valley. The gallery was hosting an exhibition entitled "War and Peace" I really am not an art critic so I must say that some of the pieces on display really did not interest me but others were very good. The Gallery and gardens are worth a stop if you are visiting Brantford.
