We stopped in to do a tasting on our way back to Toronto as they had closed when we arrived the day before. This was one of the wineries we had specifically come to PEC to visit, ended up being a better experience that we could have asked for. Not only did we get to sample all of the wines on offer (including wines not typically not offered for tasting) we also got a private tour of the wine making facilities and he barrel cellar. No charge for the tasting as we bought close to a case of various wines. Our hosted also provided us with some information on events going on in PEC throughout the year. Also this summer they will be hosting movie nights in the vineyard with live music, food trucks, & of course wine. Can't wait to come back.
Keint-He Winery is a nice stop for really good wines. The winery has only been producing wines for 7-8 years and has been at their location for 5. However, in a short time they are producing some nice chardonnay and pinot noir. The service here is extremely knowledgeable and the space is nice. The parking in front of the building is adequate for cars, but may be a bit of a challenge for buses or larger RV type vehicles. Likewise, the tasting area is smaller than some. The only challenge that I had was something that is common in the area. Many, though certainly not all, of the wineries here grow a large percentage of their grapes in Niagara, then bottle or blend it in PEC. They are up front about this here. It is not a super big deal, yet if you are wanting a wine that is exclusively from PEC grapes, be sure to ask.
On our recent trip to Wellington County, among many other stops to taste wine my wife and I popped in to Keint-he winery. The Wellington County area is becoming well known for producing exceptional pinot noirs. I was pleased that not only was the Pinot noir here reasonably priced but it also tasted very well. It is of the lighter nose Pinot's and for my taste preferred. It is a wine I would serve with any meal and would be a refreshing afternoon choice paired with cheese.
Surprisingly great selection to taste guided by a knowledgeable staff done in a friendly atmosphere. One of our best Chardonnay from this part of the world.
Gorgeous views from this winery. Tasty variety in the wine selection. Staff clearly took pride in the product.
The outdoor terrace was lovely as were the ladies who described the wine for us. We were serenaded by a wonderful classical guitarist. We really enjoyed the three different Chardonnay wines that were served as well as their Pinot Noir wines. This was my favorite winery in Prince Edward County, much more refined and sophisticated than some of the others.
Out of the wineries we visited in our Prince Edward Country wine tour, Keint-He was the most sophisticated. The staff member was very professional. Although they do not have a large wine tasting selection, I recommend the Portage Pinot Noir ($45 a bottle). The cost is $2 per glass or $5 for three glasses, with the tasting fee being waived if you purchase a bottle.
It was late in the day - the winery closes at 5:00 and as we pulled in the woman who was managing that day was getting into her car. She insisted in opening up again for us. Where else would this happen!!!Although very familiar with the County wineries we hadn't been to Keint-He before. After tasting I was very happy she had opened up. They have some good Pinot's and an excellent 2009 Chardonnay. Bought a few bottles and took them with us to the cottage where we were staying. Very pleasant wines and a great place.
Staff were very good at explaining their different wines and how they were grown and came to taste like they do. They all were helpful, friendly and gave advice on other wineries and attractions to visit. I highly recommend stopping in if in the Prince Edward County area. We picked up a bottle of almost all their wines.
