Short Hills Provincial Park is a wonderful getaway in the winter time…the banks of snow, the frozen waterfalls, the frost in the air, the quiet solitude on some of the paths. Take an hour stroll on one of the many hiking paths that are accessible from several different entrances across north Niagara, and enjoy the scenery.The waterfalls are iced over this winter, and lovely. Be sure to wear winter hiking boots on the trails to help you keep your footing.

As a lifelong resident of Niagara, I take pride and love our Short Hills Park. The trails are shared by cyclists, dog walkers, hikers and horseback riders. The flora and fauna are beautiful. The Park is not overrun by deer as the Min of Nat Resources (MNR) and a few local farmers would have you believe. The deer are an awe-inspiring sight as are the Park's many other residents. WARNING: Becareful walking in the Park after the MNR sponsored deer hunts. You are likely to break an ankle on ruts created by hunting vehicles or ATVs (which are normally prohibited); you could cut yourself on discarded razor sharp arrows or beer bottles; fall into a firepit; come across discarded narcotics and garbage or get an eyefull of a pile of deer guts. You may even be welcomed by a deer heart on top of the Short Hills sign or the odd deer leg or too hanging from a tree. (Look up, yikes!). You see, once the MNR pays for the hunt (gas, hotels, meals and salaries etc), they have no money left for the "clean up committee".Dont worry though, if you dont get hurt in the Park you may have a collision in the area roadways with a deer who is fleeing for his life.The only thing "hidden" about this Park is the MNRs' agenda to exterminate all deer using whatever means and whoever they can. It's a crying shame. Call on your local City or Regional Councilman/woman or Mayor and demand they Save Short Hills Park!

There is a great loop to walk. It is a nice peaceful walk where you truly can just enjoy true nature & peace and quite.
