A very well orchestrated evening of Turkey dinner with all the trimmings, a well stocked bar and a Christmas Pantomime. The entertainment was lively if a little crass at times. Must have the Screech cake!
Another phenomenal evening with the talented people of Spirit of Newfoundland. Grinch, Dressing and Gravy was fantastic - the music, the laughs, the talent of the performers - all made for an incredibly entertaining way to bring in the new year. We laughed so much it hurt. The performers added to it by interacting with the audience making it obvious they were enjoying it as much as those in attendance, which made it all the more special. The meal, the show, the dance after with those same performers providing live music. you couldn't ask for a better night's entertainment. Thank-you, Spirit of Newfoundland. As we say here in Newfoundland, "Right on !!!"
If you have never seen dinner theatre in your life, this will be the best show you have ever seen. If you are not from St. John's, odds are most of the shows are going to go over your head and you will be left wondering why people are laughing. There was a lot of inside jokes and almost elbowing the audience as if to say, "see? Local! Local reference! Hey? Get it?"The performers are very talented and deserve better. The stage is about the size of a large dining room table. The lighting and sound crews do a great job with the space they have. The performance area is roughly the size of a great room in an open concept house.Food was nothing special. Service was a bit slow, but again - the servers do very well with the very tight, small space that they have. The shows run a lot longer than you think and start much later than you expect. Parking in this area of downtown is a nightmare, so good luck!
Recently went to the Abba show. It was entertaining, toe-tapping and funny. In previous years checked out the Christmas showing of "Grinch, Dressing & Gravy"! A humorous adaptation of the age-old seasonal favourite of mine! Absolutely LOVED this show! I've gone to this same show twice in as many years and it was just as funny each time. Great show to check out over the Christmas season for sure! The meal is simple yet tasty. Usually only 2 choices, which are chosen when everyone is seated before the show starts. Had the salmon on my first visit, turkey dinner on my second visit and chicken on my most recent visit. Enjoyed each meal just as well as the others. There is an appetizer and dessert served with the meal as well as tea or coffee. Bar service is also available. Supporting our local talent is a wonderful experience!Definitely a must!
Spirit of Newfoundland was a great show with a meal. The food was ok, but the entertainment was great fun. Performers sang Beatles songs. Expect comedy (especially some newfie humour), and a fun time.
Oh I've seen most of their shows over their many years of entertaining us all and have never been disappointed! What a group! What a team! So very professional, funny, personable and the food is delish! You do us proud! They really involve the audience too! Doesn't matter where you sit, you'll laugh and want to dance on the tables! Don't miss them!
Wanted to have a night out in St. John's that would allow us to experience the local talent. Was not disappointed! The meal was good, and the food plenty. The staff was very friendly, and the show was excellent! If I was here longer I would go again for a different show. Look for a discount coupon, ours was $45 off (for two), great value for an awesome night out.
Took a large group to see "Skeets, Snobs and Peppermint Nobs" and everyone had a great time. The performers were all fantastic and the show had a great variety of music, dancing, story telling all with a heavy dose of comedy. I had forgotten how good many of our local artists are, but now I'm looking forward to their Christmas show! A must see for Townies, Baymen or CFAs
The theater is located in the historic Masonic Temple which was filled to capacity for our Wednesday evening show. Things seem to get off to a slow start and expect to have your bread, salad and main meal consisting of BBq chicken or stuffed Cod or Vegetarian option, baked potato and veggies before the 1st act. However the songs, stories and pride of NFLD keep you clapping and laughing until a short pause for a drink and dessert of rum cake!! The closing act of more songs and storytelling will have your sides sore from laughing and your toes tapping!! NFLD has alot of history and tons of songs and these 4 actors/singers along with back up band do an amazing job!!! The show shares much of what NFLD has to offer. Excellent food and entertainment!!!
My daughter wanted to be screeched in to Newfoundland, so this is where we went. It was a great choice! Very entertaining and challenging to say our oath with the proper accent! Highly recommended!
What a laugh! An entertaining way to spend the evening with really talented singers and musicians, who serve up some good laughs in a comfortable, intimate setting. The food was good value for money too and the servers were friendly and attentive.
Went to beetles two years ago and was pleasantly surprised at the professional talent and singing. I am booked for another show this month as an anniversary night out. Can't wait!
We were there for the Skeets, Snobs and Peppermint Nobs show and were amazed by the talent of the singers - much better quality than your average dinner theatre. Loved the Newfoundland humor, music and trivia, plus the interpretation of the language. Food was decent but not fabulous. Great value for the price, the entertainment continued for quite a long time. Helpful hint - there's no air conditioning so if it's quite warm outside it will be even warmer inside.
Our friends surprised us with the "Duet Yourself" dinner & show - absolutely magical from start to finish. The location which is the former Masonic temple building was perfect, the meal was very well served and the show itself was very professionally performed by the whole cast.We laughed and reminisced with the whole audience and the icing on the cake for us Scottish Tourists was my wife being brought up on stage and sung to by Peter Halley (a little embarrassing for her but nevertheless throughly enjoyed) and a rendition of Loch Lomand enthusiastically sung by the cast and the whole audience at the end of the show.We will definitely attend another dinner & show next time in St John's
I have been to Spirit of Newfoundland to see various shows over the past 4 years, and am never disappointed!! The staff, talent, humor, atmosphere, and food are all stellar!
