This little park is at the end of one of the main runways at the Vancouver airport. Little kids love coming here to play and watch the jets land and take off. A great spot for kids to play for a while.
The park is along Russ Baker Way and you can't miss it. What you need is a moment of time to walk around the area and appreciate the design of the park. It is not just a park, but a specially designed park to co exist with an airport. It is unusual, because it is not about flowers, trees or grass. It needs you to spare a moment and find out what it is by yourself.
Enjoyable to sit and watch the planes take off and/or land. Plenty of parking available. Great place to get spectacular photos of planes.
I often drive by the Larry Berg Flight Path Park. It's an amazing spot for "bird watchers" as it's situate on the eastern end of the runway adjacent to the South Terminal along Russ Baker Way. A word of caution especially for youngsters. The huge globe becomes very slippery when damp or wet, more than once I've noticed adults and kids alike go for a trip. It's a nice place for a picnic while watching flights at times not more than a couple hundred feet above your head
I had to rate this five stars for a very selfish reason. My name is Larry Berg. Nuff said? LOL I drove by this park in a bus once. It seemed nice enough.
This park had a recent make over with new trees and plants. Smaller parking lot but I have never seen it full.Great place to plane watch
This park was built recently. Great place to watch the Vancouver Airport planes landing or taking off. Has few paths and space for kids to run or walk the dog.
Maybe you're always travelling by air, but have you every seen how a flight takes off right from the end of runway? Come to this cute park!
The park opened late last year, and we've been enjoying quick stops and picnics here on a weekly basis ever since. It's just past the security fence for the south runway of YVR, so needless to say, the views are great. The miniature runways are adorable, and our toddler loves climbing on the world globe. The YVR informational signs are quite informative and well-done, and the plane-spotting area (the mound directly under the approach to the south runway) has great signs to help identify the most common planes at YVR.Our one disappointment with the park isn't worthy of a reduction in stars, but still worth pointing out: the big planes don't usually fly directly over the park on sunny days. Generally speaking, if the weather is nice, planes take off away from the park (and the big planes almost always land on the north runway, irrespective of weather). If you're adamantly trying to see the big planes land, there's a dirt parking lot off of the north runway that serves that purpose. That being said, we love visiting Larry Berg Park, holding out hope that the take-off pattern will be towards the park or that we'll inadvertently arrive just before a few jets use the south runway for landings. One thing is for sure: we know that we'll see lots of fun airplane activity each time we arrive.
Opened on September 25, 2013, the park was opened to remember the contribution of Larry Berg who was once the chairman of YVR Int'l Airport Authority to build up its good reputation. It is located at the corner of Russ Baker Way n Airport Road (just at the end of the south runway). Needless to say, a good place if you love aviation. You can see planes taking off (most of the time) or flying into the airport. Inside the park, there are info boards introducing the YVR Int'l airport surrounding a global map. Be sure you have a car as it is not close to public transport. Go there on sunny day as it is an open area. No food or drinks or toilet is available but in area nearby.
