A 10- minute walk from the parking lot would lead to a welcoming placid plot of nature’s creation. Small waves were crashing onto the shores and hitting on boulders, but from my view, it was like in all chaos, there is a cosmos. It was really surreal, and no description would replace the experience I felt at that point of time. The view was absolutely impeccable. Everything just seemed to work together- they all complemented each other in every way. The waves, the naturally “craved” pavement, the seashells, and even the algae. It was marvellous.

The coast of the Tasman Peninsula is a geological marvel. It is difficult to believe the tessellated pavement is a natural phenomena. This whole area is steeped in a brutal and sad part of our Australian history.Sadder still for me as I lost a blue/green boulder opal set in gold in this area. If anyone found this PLEASE hand it in to the nearest police station. I am devastated by its loss.

The tesellated pavement is great- so even you'd swear it'd been cut with an angle grinder! Be careful as it can be slippery.Some interesting photos and information in the officers quarters.The dog line is a unique (if gruesome) part of Tsamania's history. Certainly worth taking a driving break to look around this area.

We very much enjoyed the Tesselated Pavement part of this historic site. Very interesting rock formations that look like they have been laid out as paving stones but are actually a natural phenomena. You can walk out and across them and they are full of tide pools and sea life. We have never seen anything like this before and it is worth the visit. Also along this way is the Blowhole, Devils Kitchen, and the Tasman Arch which are all fantastic nature wonders.

The area is beautiful and has major historic significance in the role of the penisular as a prison. THe history is well interpreted and the natural features are awesome.

Our group enjoyed the documented preservation of the cottage, the stories of past residents, and dog line sculpture. It's a great walk along the beach, over the tasselated pavement, then up the steps for a coffee at the Lufra Hotel, then a return walk along the road.

On a previous trip to Tasmania we were supposed to visit this attraction but were told at the last minute there was no time. So we went by ourselves on this visit. What a unique part of Tasmania this area is. The tessellated pavement was unbelievable and as we were by ourselves we were able to take our time and really appreciate the uniqueness of this geographical formation. Best of all there are other sites to visit around this area making it a perfect day out. It was a perfect spot for photography. There was a hotel/restaurant across the road as well which was well patronised.

We visited every site we could along the way such as the Dog Line, Tesselated Pavement, Blow Hole, Tasman Arch and old settlement and loved seeing the history and the natural geographical formations all of which are well signposted and explained and best of all, free.

We stopped at several little trails and interesting rock formations/cliffs. The paths are well marked and short. Signs explain what you are looking at. Beautiful coastline for photographs. It looks like Greece or the Amalfi coast in Europe. Blue green water...

We stopped here on the way back from our day-trip to Port Arthur and it really completed the experience. The blow hole was great for the dinner available in the on-site van (great food and milkshakes for a very reasonable price) and the views. Not sure if our timing just wasn't right, but we had no 'blow' from the 'hole'. The Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen were great and I now have some brilliant photo's. All in all - a 30 min delay but wonderful scenery and pictures.

Having seen this place on so many TV shows I was underwhelmed seeing it in person but you still have to go and see it for yourself. The area as a whole is just stunning - the Tessellated Pavement, the Blowhole, Tasman's Arch, the Devil's Kitchen - all are must see sights. We visited everything on our way down to Port Arthur.

I agree that you might be a bit disappointed if you are stopping just for the "Historic Site". But in the broader context of the area, its interesting, Don't miss the tessellated pavement, Tasman Arch, Devils Kitchen and Blowhole, PARTICULARLY if you have high school aged kids to whom these rare geological formations will be useful (if not exactly appreciated!!!).

This is a must see. The Blow hole is terrific and free. Tasman's Arch is okay and you can skip the Devil's Kitchen. Scenery excellent. Go for a walk on the lovely beach and eat up at the old traditional and still family run Hotel Lufra.

If you come for the Historic Site you might be disappointed. There is not much of it.But do come for the beaches, coastal scenery, wierd natural pavement on the beach and the Tasman National Park. For Tasman cruises too.

On the way to Port Arthur, we stopped of at Eaglehawk to see the tessellated pavement, which was stunning & well worst the wonder. From here we continued to the gasman arch and the blowhole. All an easy drive between
