richmond maze and tearooms

I thought that it would be nice to go to the maze. When I arrived I thought I would have lunch but when I looked at the menu I thought to my-self well this is rather expensive. I ordered a Café Latte and the young girl who made it (she talks really slow) basically brought out a cappuccino in a glass and the milk tasted burnt, if you ask me that is rather disgraceful! and mind you I paid $5 for that so called café Latte! The place is definitely not that same without Pat and Pete and all the other staff that have left (don't really blame them for leaving).

The Café:This may sound hipster as all heck, but Bubbacinos are not hard to get right: It's milk froth with cocoa powder on top. Our baby was presented with a full-strength coffee in a tiny cup. After we managed to whisk it away when we saw the brown colour (thankfully before she drank it), they apologised at brought over unfrothy hot milk. Not warm, hot. I filled it with cold milk to offset any damage that could have occurred. We paid $2.00 for hot milk and a potentially caffeinated baby. Most places serve bubbacinos for far less and at much higher quality (Case in point, we went to Wicked Cheeses down the road and they did a marvellous job).The Maze:DANGEROUS. Our toddler loved running around the maze, however it is sorely in need of repair.In one section, and I highlight this only because you should look out for it if you plan to go, a section of the electrical fence that surrounds the outer edge of the maze has wires hanging down at adult neck level. I informed the staff of this and they are looking into it.The rest of the maze just needs a good paint job and something slightly less dull than wooden slats nailed to posts. A bit of greenery and maybe some art and they could have something really special. Not worth $10 a head (for adults).The maze is well laid out though.

This establishment has two mazes to keep both kids and adults happy. There doesn't seem to be a way to progress through the twists, dead ends and walls without wanting to run. A race iseems to be in progress wherever you meet anyone else and all with advice to offer making it a friendly and fun place to spend half a day. It is recommended that you go through the mazes before heading back to the tea rooms. There is a map available for those who need a little help in navigating their way through to the centre of each maze. Children get a surprise gift from the staff at the end if they find the middle of the second maze. The tea rooms have a limited choice of food such as hotdog, pies and toasties. There was a good display of sweets for for morning or afternoon tea. Coffee was good and the children enjoyed huge milkshakes. The prices are a little high. Good fun and great way to exercise.

My little family visited here on the weekend, we didn't eat at the tearooms but did attend both mazes. Luckily we had an entertainment book voucher which entitled our child in for free. Entry prices were $10 for adults and $7 for children. There was not much info regarding the maze we had no idea what we needed to do or what we were looking for. We did the second maze first and when we finally reached the middle there was a little green peep hole with a picture of a tiger fallen onto the ground (not very thrilling at all) we then proceeded to the first maze which was simpler. At the end of this is a triangle mirror thing (again not that exciting for adults) There are a lot of loose boards with nails sticking out and rubbish throughout the mazes which Is disappointing. Don't get me wrong, we had fun but it isn't something that we will rush back and do again in a hurry.

Nachos were a bowl of plain tortilla chips and a small amount of meat sauce and cheese on top for $15 rip off! The maze was broken in parts and had nails sticking out, the middle was a plastic window looking in we saw a broken picture frame with a faded picture of a tiger on the floor and some bits of wood, hardly worth it.

My partner and I visited the maze because we had a coupon for one free entry. Normal entry is $10 per adult. There are two mazes on the property. They are both wooden made with wooden boards. We did enjoy our time there, however there is no WOW factor what so ever. The middle of the mazes are not exciting at all. I would have been disappointed if we had paid full price ($20 for both of us) but for $10 that was ok. Probably good if you have time in Richmond and you have nothing else to do. We did not eat here so I cannot comment on that.

There are two mazes, the staff are friendly and gave us lollies on completion. Well worth the entrance fee and it was fun and a little hard at times. I had done this years ago but had forgotten everything so it was good to do again. Didn't eat here so I can't comment on that, but if you have an hour to spare it's well worth it.

Went on a hot and windy day with a baby and toddler but found it quite good, some of the maze was broken due to some disrespectful boy who had visited the day before, but didn't deter from the experience. would like to see more things to find along the way for the kids to make it more interesting for them, however a good time filler for our trip back home :)

Stopped off here because it was the first place I saw as I drove into Richmond and I saw the sign advertising All Day Breakfast. I was warmly welcomed by Rhonda who chatted to me as if was a local. Definitely made to feel very welcome. Yes she is a bit over the top and loud (as one reviewer has noted) but as a single traveller it is so nice to go somewhere and end up having a chat instead of just bing ignored. Food wise - well I don't know why but I ended up,ordering Quiche and salad ($14). It came out promptly and was ok although I didn't eat the outside crust as it was a bit dry. I found myself wishing I had stuck to my original decision and ordered the breakfast but what I got was probably enough for a quick lunch. There are two mazes. One has a lot of dead ends and there are lots of mirrors and you have to find your way to the middle. Then you go to the bigger maze, which apparently doesn't have any dead ends and you make your way to the middle and look in the box. When you get back you tell Rhonda what you found in the box and she gives you a lolly. The maze seems to be popular with the kids but it does cost - $7 for children or $30 for a family pass. I personally think Rhonda makes the place. She has a chat to everyone who comes in and really seems to have a good time whether she is discussing the best place to get fresh apple juice or the best pies in Tassie.

Lunch on a chilly winters day, the "Daily Special" of Chicken and Vegetable Soup sounded hearty, what a let down when it eventually arrived, we concluded that it took an awful long time to open the can and heat it up,still searching for the actual chicken.. Our Chocolate Milkshakes barely had the chocolate waved over them. The lady who appeared to be "The Boss", arrived and sat at one of the tables then proceeded to have a very loud (on speaker phone) conversation complaining that her horse hadn't won its race. Paid our overpriced bill and left... never to return.

Did not do the maze as it was very cold. The tearoom is under renovation however the lady who prepared our order was friendly and apologised for the mess.

We were with a large group of children who very much enjoyed the experience of the maze. While they were 'lost' we were able to have lovely food and coffees (The Devonshire teas were particularly good) in front of a blazing fire.

Did not go through the maze, but we had a Devonshire tea with lovely hot scones, the staff were very nice and chatted to us about what to see and do in the area

This is not the most difficult maze you will come across, but it is surprisingly good fun. The staff were lovely and inviting and for a short stop, it was well worth it.

Take some quiet time having scones and tea for mum and dad,while the kids are in the maze trying to find there way out the maze. Or go in with them and feel being lost as a family its great fun.
