We loved this place. Very interactive, answering all questions during animal display shows and then very approachable as the staff went about their daily routine cleaning pens and feeding animals. They explained so much as they were working, taking the trouble to point out hidden lizards and frogs - our kids loved it, especially feeding the kangaroos and holding the snake and crocodile.
The park has a large variety of Australian snakes and lizards, a couple of crocodiles, some koalas kangaroos and emus, but most importantly the reptile park is staffed by people who are interested and knowledgeable. We arrived some time before the snake handling and croc feeding events and a young lady with glasses took us in tow and gave us a personal tour of the lizards and turtles, she probably spent 30 minutes with us and taught us a lot about each of the various lizards on display. The lady who did the venomous snake handling and croc feeding certainly knew her stuff and gave 2 very good talks. There might have been 20 people watching both of these events and it was great to be close enough to the action to ask questions during the shows. In the snake shed we got to watch one of the large pythons devour a (dead) chicken, fascinating. If you are going through Childers and have 2 hours or so to spare, especially if you have youngsters or overseas visitors with you, make the stop, its well worth it. Bear in mind that the 2 main action displays, venomous snake handling and croc feeding are all over by lunch time.
We visited this attraction with our 7 year old grandson, who said "It was awesome"Getting up close and personal and holding a painted turtle, a 2 year old crocodile and an olive python around his neck were the most awesome. Also the snake talk and croc feeding were very information and interesting.Because this attraction is smallish the handlers are able to take time to answer questions and you can definitely get closer to all the animals.
If zu want to see and touch Australia's wildlife, this is the way to go. The feeding of the croc was just awesome!
What they don't know about snakes is not worth knowing. Allow at least 3 hours to thoroughly enjoy this place.
There are so many good things about this reptile park. Firstly, The Staff are so friendly and helpful and they all have a love for the animals in their care, and i think because of this personal touch between the staff and the animals, it really makes the visitor feel very welcome and somehow part of their family for a few hours. This reptile park beats the Pants off 'Australia Zoo' on The Sunshine coast, although Australia Zoo is much larger and has many more animals, Snakes Downunder reptile park has character and charm and that personal touch, whereas Australia Zoo just left us feeling cold and ripped off, and not just in monetary terms! This is a must visit if you are passing through or staying at Childers..!
Action packed day for all. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable - As we arrived a little late for the Crocodile and Python encounter, the staff arranged another session for myself and my family to hold the reptiles. A very informative guide took us around the park showing us the various Monitors, Snakes, and Crocs. We also got to watch the feeding of the Monitors and the Crocs. Would recommend this park to anyone who is a lover of reptiles. They also have a Koala encounter and you can feed the Kangaroos. We went on a Saturday and it was rather quite, this made the experience more personalised. Entry is very reasonably priced.
A visit to Snakes Downunder is a must if you are passing through Childers, a great park for all ages, as easy to spend the day there. With two snake shows and oppurtunities to hold a snake and crocodile, plus guided tours of the other reptile enclosures and a Kangaroo and Emu area where you can hand feed to Kanagroos. Snakes Downunder is a great day out
What a wonderful experience!!!! so close up and personal. The information was incredible. The staff were very passionate about everything, and were more than happy to answer any questions and just generally chat about the many exhibits(more like family pets). Plenty parking, plenty shade and seats. What we thought would take an hour ended up 4 hours. Do not miss it.
Travelling australia for 3 months. this has been one of the best interactive zoo experiences we have had. Small and intimate the staff have the time and interest to share their passion for their animals. Not for those who want an over the top entertaining experience but if you like reptiles you will love this park. The croc show is the best we have seen after going to 4 other parks. Simply amazing.
A definite must when you are in the area. Heaps of parking, we were given a private tour by one of the lovely ladies, it was a Tuesday. She had no problem explaining and taking her time listening to my kids questions. Then we moved to the snake presentation where we were blown away by the amount of info and again she took time to answer questions. Lastly getting FREE photos with a snake and a baby crocodile!! Highly recommend this to families.
What an awesome little gem this place is. I live in Hervey Bay and always recommend this place to my visitors, none of which have been disappointed.( I have visited a few times myself) If you are after a commercial attraction with hundreds of animals and demonstrations with crowds then you might be disappointed, but if you are after a unique experience with staff who are really passionate about the animals, spend time chatting to you, are extremely knowledgeable and answer all you questions with a smile and enthusiasm then you have come to the right place. The snake shows are so informative. Not many places I have experienced which offer such a personal touch. 4/5 hours is a good time indication personally and well worth the $20. Love it
For been nearly a local I could not believe the price. There was 7 of us and after a half a hour we where bored. It is way over priced and when we went to hold the croc the person who was handling it was more interested in showing it to the back packer young girls so if you want to go please just make sure you go in feeding times as least you will get to see something. It's been well done for what they done by themselves but it needs something more as it is a lot of money for what it is. Maybe young children or people who would love to hang onto a baby croc for a minute might enjoy it.
My husband and I had a fantastic day at Snakes Downunder. We each held a python and a crocodile and both of us found the poisonous snakes talk informative and interesting. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and close enough to the Bruce to stop in if you're passing by.
We took our two 11 & 10 year old granddaughters yesterday. It was excellent. At times there was a bit too much information and they were a bit restless, but they loved holding the python and the baby croc. There is heaps to see and the staff are great. You can get up close and personal with the reptiles. There is a small kiosk with great pies, pretty good coffee and local ice cream as well as souvenirs. Worth a visit
