I was disappointed that there wasn't a single picnic table that had a view!! All the trees have claimed the landscape and the only way to get a view is to walk the "track"- which is not pram accessible! Had to carry the tot for the duration and slap mozzies continuously -ended up eating in the van! To be fair, the view was quite remarkable, but I've seen it once and that's enough!
Decent climb and good views at the top when the weather is clear. Bit tricky to get a car up when visibility is poor and people are tearing their way back down the mountain. Noticed I didn't see a single yeti on the way up and I'm particularly observant. Would have given 5 stars if I'd seen a mythical humanoid creature, maybe next time.
The wonderful views along with the scenic drive up the mountain are the highlights. There are some picnic areas, but these are tired and not serviced well. Long drive to the nearest corner store.
Great views that are now becoming a bit obscured by trees, nice picnic tables and shade.... A long steep drive up and down where roadside views are better that at the top of the mountain.
The 5km drive up was an interesting one past beautiful homes, and the occasional lookout over Rockhampton. If hot temperatures, the haze doesn't make for good photos. Lovely picnic area at the top but the viewing is generally obstructed by trees.
For an overall view of Rockhampton Mt Archer Is a must. There are several short walking tracks, and a couple of good long tracks taking several hours if doing a return trip. It's a shame there aren't more tracks of 2-3 hrs in duration the hill has so much to offer. Some mountain biking tracks would be a draw card to the hill also.Overall is an enjoyable place to visit for a fitness walk, and then a drive around the couple of streets at the summit to look at the homes perched on the hillside.
Nice drive up, picturesque and nice place to have lunch or morning tea. Toilet facilities are available and quite reasonable. The walks are comfortable and easy to go at own pace.
Mt Archer is a a must stop place when visiting Rockhampton so you can take in the view of the whole city. It is amazing to view at twilight/night as the city lights put on quite a show. You can even see the word " hell" spelt out in lights which is quite a novelty for some tourists. Personally I visit Mt Archer for the fantastic bush walking tracks it offers. There are no food or drink facilities there so byo your own lunch and enjoy the serenity that Mt Archer has to offer.
It wasn't the best of lookouts. You do get to see a great view of the city below, which we spent a couple of moments just looking. You really don't see much of the ocean, if you look through some trees on a short walk you see a very small amount, but nothing spectacular. The drive up isn't too bad, not as steep as I've read, (in saying that, it still is an incline.) I thought it was worth just for the drive and looking upon the city, not bad for a quick visit!
We visited Mt Archer at twilight one evening and witnessed the fading daylight and the emerging lights of the city. We revisited the next day and took the walks around the summit to the various lookouts. You can see out to the sea and over the riverflats and the sweeping views over Rockhampton. It is only a short drive from the CBD and is a popular destination for local walkers and cyclists. There are toilets and BBQ facilities available at the summit. Worthy of a visit.
Rockhampton is a wonderful place for tourists to visit and Mt Archer is stunning. Words can't describe the ascent, views and architecture once at the top. A must see! But chose your car wisely it's super steep, make sure it's reliable.
We had a schedule to keep to, so it was a shame this was just a quick visit. I'm sure that the walking trails would have definitely been worth a longer look. Sign posting from the South side was very poor and google maps took us on a bit of a different track....but we got there eventually.
Came for the view and it's very pretty. Nice spot to watch sunset from. Lots of hocking trails from 20min to all day.
Nice drive up to Mt Archer with fantastic views over Rocky and surrounding areas, although it was a bit hazy due to bushfire smoke the view was still quite impressive.
What fabulous views from the top of Mt Archer. Great to see. It is amazing people have built homes up there.
