The Powder Magazine is located at the end of Camp Street, a short drive from town. It was restored by the National Trust after having fallen into ruin. While it can be viewed from the outside, to inspect the inside, you have to get a Golden Ticket swipe card from the tourist info centre in town, which isn't terribly convenient if not forewarned.

We went for a scenic drive and stopped at this. From the outside it looks great..and the drive to get there is lovely...but you have to book in town. It was a little disappointing that there was no way during holiday season to access this...other than returning to town along a one way track. Fortunately the drive was lovely.

Although we didn't purchase a Golden Ticket to get in, we had fun exploring around the area....maybe next time we'll have to get a ticket!

Didn't get to go in as we were walking the Gorge track and stopped off only to find out we needed a code to get in and there were no staff.

We have visited several times before but this was the first time we had seen it since the upgrade. You now stand in the darkened room as spotlights go on and off, illuminating items on display, with a great recorded commentary. Fascinating old building, sure to be a hit with kids as well as adults.

I visited the Powder Museum and Gorge for the first time in August. The Powder Museum is a substantial building and the brickwork is superb. Wish my brickie was as good.

Listen to the history and a little about the magazine. It is easy to find and the volunteers at the Tourist Information Centre will look after you with a pass. Hold onto that pass! I left mine in the box there and it should have been returned to the TIC or used to access other buildings. A lesson learned.

If you are doing the full Beechworth Tour with a Golden Tour ticket or just doing a drive along the Gorge Scenic Drive, then the Powder Magazine is worth taking the time to visit. My feeling is that in terms of the other historical attractions in Beechworth - Courthouse; Gaol; etc, the Magazine does not have the same impact. As a point of history it is interesting in terms of how they managed the huge quantities of explosive materials for the miners so close to the township itself. The building is interesting in structure and has a significant history, so maybe it deserves a little higher rating - its just that Beechworth has so much else to offer.

Enjoyed the light and show display. Remember to buy a gold pass which will give you access. - purchase this at the information centre.

This is a wonderfully restored attraction showing the interesting past in the beechworth gold fields. The sound and light show is a little dated and is long winded and a little boring. Worth the look if you have purchased Beechworth Golden Ticket as this completes you look at this towns history. Entrance is only via swipe card which is available from the tourist information center when you purchase the Golden Ticket. The swipe card needs to be returned to either the information center or can be left in a drop box at the Powder Magazine.

well restored and community access. Just not enough detail on how to get there or upfront information on tickets to the interactive display.

The information plaques excellent and after looking at the magazine take the gorge drive - so scenic with great views and the little creek roaring along

This was covered as part of the golden ticket and you were given a fob access card to access this unoccupied venue. It has an interactive illumination that has a fake explosion and rambles on and on while you are standing in the dark which means you can't actually see the displays only between flickers. We left before the narration finished because we felt a bit silly and a bit bored standing in the dark so we weren't sure if the lights eventually come on or not. It is worth a look if you have purchased the golden ticket because it is part of the package but otherwise I wouldn't bother to spend extra to see it.

We enjoyed the Gorge and also visited the water falls in the rain and this was fantastic. Lots of photos taken and will come back and see it in Summer to see the difference.
