glenrowan blacksmith shop & armoury

We paid a couple of dollars and had a little look around and received an informative, interesting brochure. This attraction is just one of several sites that help get a real feel for what life was like back then in 1860.

The Blacksmith Shop in Glenrowan is not in the "tourist strip" but is definitely part of Glenrowan's history as it is on the actual site of Ned Kelly's capture. The shop has so much to see and Gary the blacksmith is more than happy to tell you about Ned Kelly and you can even purchase a Ned Kelly reproduction suit of armour which he makes in his shop. It is fascinating to watch him work and is a skill which was once a necessary part of every town. When you are there you can also see the Old Police Station which is next to the Blacksmith Shop.

Glenrowan is Ned Kelly`s last stand before he was captured, arrested and send to court.. Everything around is about Ned Kelly and his gang, a famous Australian criminal that was even portraid in movies.

The blacksmith was helpful, informative and friendly. After looking around the shop (it's small but lots of interesting stuff) he pointed us in the direction of other attractions.

Interesting visit after discovering the site of Ned Kelly's capture. Well worth turning off the highway on our trip to Melbourne.

Our visit to the Armoury was the highlight of our trip to Glenrowan. The blacksmith has a great sense of humour and is more than happy to have a chat. He has some hand made replica pieces for sale. His store is over the bridge on the same side as the old train station.
