We did quite a bit of research on this trip, but came up with little information. The tourism office in Guayaquil is useless. We were finally directed to a travel agency, which was a mistake. We paid $247 for two of us for a "full day" Mangrove and Dolphin Tour. We were picked up at 7:30 am, then drove for 2 hours to get to the boat. The driver and tour guide spoke English near fluently. He went with us on the boat. The engine of the boat started smoking 30 minutes out, so we returned and changed boats. We saw a pelican, frigates, and herons. That was it. Later we saw about 10 dolphins, but none came close enough or stayed above water for any great pictures. After 1 1/2 hours, we returned to shore and drove to see a beach. This was followed by lunch on our own (we were the only two on the tour), and then our guide/driver was ready to drive us home again. It was 1:30pm by this point. Our 'tour' was scheduled from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Needless to say, I felt ripped off, but felt at the mercy of the driver.
Required birding visit South of Guayaquil and an easy stop on the way to Buenaventura Reserve. We saw the Horned Screamer, Jet Antbird and Pacific Royal Flycatcher here so we had a wonderful start to our 18 day birding trip covering Southern Ecuador. Several trails plus birding from the road was good too.
Thank you Eddie (Guayaquil, a guided visit) for sharing this place so special to you with us. I do not think we would have enjoyed the place like we did had we taken this tour in any other fashion.
Amazing Eco-System mega diversity howler monkeys mangroove forrest,Cacao plantations near by excellent day tour.
Come and visit Monoloco, located in the hearth of Manglares Churute, wake up with the sound of the howler monkeys. A magic place, trekking, canoa, cacao farming can be arrange from there.
Clearly visible from Guayaquil´s waterfront. Eddie told us about this place and showed us some of his pictures. Now back home i´ve learned a lot about this place. Ask Eddie for his cloud storage link this guy´s a huge wealth of photos there.
We first saw the howler monkeys in the mountains near the mangroves. We then took a motorized canoe boat trip. We were introduced to many different birds and vegitation. The highlights were the red crabs. They were everywhere. Later we had a crab lunch at a Hacienda near by.
plenty of birds, bring a good camera, good SPF sunscrean and a hat. We took public bus - 1$ a person, comfortable. No need to blow a budget on an "organized" tour. Boat was the expensive part, 90$ for 3 hours and 45$ for the naturalist guide - nice boy but could name only few birds in English.
Churute is simply amazing! in about half an hour´s time out of a busy city like Guayaquil, across lovely agricultural plains with many large birds to see, you reach a set of interesting small mountains. You can´t believe this naturals preserve´s forest, and its tennants: Some species of monkeys, sloths, horned screamers (amazing!), parrots, roseate spoonbills, rails, herons and so much more! This is a natural preserve where locals harvest seasonally mangrove crabs, so make sure you arrange the community to know you are going, so they prepare crabs, and crab meat empanadas, right at the edge of the estuary- fantastic! make sure you have repellent. many mosquitoes may spoil your visit! You can go for the entire day, or half day. We included it on an incredible drive to Cuenca! A perfect first stop after leaving Guayaquil
