The color of this lake is absolutely stunning. It is more blue than the skies at certain times/reflections.

The trail along Lago Nordenskjold is part of the "W" circuit of Torres del Paine National Park and several hours away from Puerto Natales. It's mainly a transition between more interesting and more difficult sections of hiking trail. If of advanced age or less adequate physical fitness with ability to walk more than a hour or two this can be interesting especially for condor viewing. We hiked this trail on our last day of a week in the park spending 8 hours on the trail. The first hour or more from Hotel Las Torres is relatively easy but relatively uninteresting (given the immensely more interesting sights in the park that is; such as the towers or the horns). Coming from the other end of the lake requires adventurousness as you have had to take a 30 minute boat ride across Lago Pehoe and then hike for 2.5-3 hours to reach Campano Italiano and the French Valley area before even starting this portion of the trial which takes 4-5 hours to the Hotel Las Torres direction. And from the French Valley this trail is difficult for the first 1-2 hours and enjoyable only to the seasoned hiker. So just from a practical standpoint do this walk from the Hotel Las Torres because you are not doing the "W" or because you are physically fit and have run out of better hiking activities, such as Mirador Torres, hikes from Paine Grande up the French Valley or Refugio Grey to the Mirador Glacier Grey or even Mirador Ferrier (not to write of the typical tourist short walks doable by even the unfit).

At the age of 81 and with a hip prosthesis, I am not much up to hiking the trails that younger generations rave about, but for someone on an intelligently crafted bus tour, this long narrow lake is a blessing, as it offers a smooth surface for vehicular transit with spectacular views of the core peaks and glaciers of the central group of mountains. The views keep on changing, different perspectives open up, and essentially you can cover the entire Southern face of the range, with plenty of stopping points for more focused viewing. Its blue waters add a refreshing colour to what is in many respects a rather bleak landscape. It is also quite close to grazing herds of guanacos, and especially pleasing is that at its South-West corner, its waters drain into the Paine River to forms the small but thrilling Salto Grande waterfall (really more of a large vortex) that is only a few steps down from the road.

You can see different lakes and every lake has its own color, even they are right next to each other.

I visited Lago Nordenskjold during a day of sightseeing at the Torres Del Paine National Park. Who could believe that such a beautiful place existed anywhere in the world? The Algae changes the pH levels and makes the water appear Turquoise! I'm sure there's more science to it, but the result makes for stunning views. Would have loved more time so we could use the walking paths surrounding the lake, but we had a 30 minute photo stop only. Well worth it as we have some stunning pictures of this site and just couldn't believe our luck that this was included in our Day trip. See as much as you can whilst in Patagonia, but if you have only one day in Puerto Natales, make sure this place is on your tour.

The colors of the lakes in Patagonia are all breathtaking, and Lago Nordenskjold is one of the best. A beautiful stage for the majestic mountain range behind it.

Deceptive from afar; saw my first water-mist devils on its surface, as well as the first plate clouds above it. Long hikes to get around it. The furies it unleashes on the ledges and in the night, at Refugios la Cuernos will not be forgotten.

The colour of this lake is quite beautiful. All the paths surrounding the lake are perfect to do trekking along the park. 100% recommendable!.

This is a beautifully colored lake. The condors soar around it and the mountains are mirrored in it.

Lake Nordenskjold is a lake located in Torres del Paine National Park that was named named after the Swede Otto Nordenskiöld who discovered it in the beginning of the 20th century. At the western edge of Nordenskjold lake, we found Salto Grande waterfall, one of the largest in the Park. It was also easy for us to find an abundance of wildlife around the lake, including guanacos, upland geese and a few flamingos.We had several options when visiting Nordenskjold Lake. All around the Park you have several overlooks that offer incredible sights of this massive electric blue lake, but you may also trek around it. The Famous W trek around Torres del Paine National Park has a stretch between the French Valley and the Base of the Towers where one walks right along the edge of Nordenskjold Lake. Hosteria Las Torres also offers a horseback riding outing along this same trail.Finally, those who want to see Lake Nordenskjold from up close can also do a light trek to Mirador Cuernos (Horns Overlook) that takes you from Salto Grande waterfall to an impressive overlook right underneath the famous Paine Horns, with only Nordensjold Lake separating you and the massive granite giants. A sight you don't want to miss!

Long lake with nice gray color rock formations and plenty of wildlife nearby. Mountains and hills around most of the lake.

Beautiful lake, amazing colours, wonderful views towards the Torres del Paine mountains. There are some nice routes to hike on both the northern and southern shore of the lake.

This lake has a great view of the famous Cuernos del Paine,whose formation is composed of igneous,sedimentary rocks.

Torres del Paine is a really windy place, but if you are lucky there will be the perfect day for walking, and this is just 45 minutes from Paine Grande refuge. If you stiff want more you can keep on walking to the campamento italiano and return to Paine Grande Refuge to take your boat back
